Major suegery without an unfill????

Recommended Posts

I am having a hysterectomy on the 30th of this month. I called my band doc and ask if I needed an unfill, he says no. I have heard both ways, some get a total unfill, and some stay restricted. I really don't want to gain any weight, and since I can't work out I'm glad that my doc wants to leave me with some restriction. I do watch what I eat, but I'm not a calorie counter, I also don't monitor my fat intake, but I do make smart choices. I'm so close to goal, I really don't want to start going backwards now. Any advice. ~Mandy

Hey Mandy,

I had my TT and breast lift without any fill taken out. You just let the anesthesiologist you have a lap band and cant be sick or vomit after surgery and they will make sure you arent.

The moment I had slight nausea they gave me something and it went straight away.

I was the same...I was having the TT and didnt want to put on a heap of weight recovering.

Everything went fine, I would leave your fill and let them know.

I wouldnt imagine it would hurt you to go onto a (nutritious) liquid diet after surgery when you're inactive, if you find you're tighter and cant eat normally. I reckon only take out fill if the need becomes apparent.

SORRY! I disagree!..I had a Tummy Tuck and did not have an unfil..I aspirated on the table...scared everyone to death....I was on oxygen for 8 days after comign hoem because of it going into my lungs! Because of this my band Dr. has told all his banders..never have surgery without an unfill..it is not worth the risk!

deb

I was more concerned about vomiting post-op. I think that the period of inactive time will be fine. Since I will be recovering, I don't think I will be eating much. I have some sf Jello and popsicles, and I will get pre-make some healthy meals and freeze them. I'm more concerned about getting re-motivated to work out again after surgery. ~Mandy

Just be careful..It concerns me that you may go into surgery with the band not unfilled!..The surgeon and the anesthesilogist both knew and had all the facts pertaining to my band. I still aspirated. My band Dr. was very upset and he put out a bulletin to all banders. Maybe I was tighter than you are...this I do not know..but i would never consider any type of surgery without opening my band..Good luck to you and God Bless!!!...deb

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
