HAD IT DONE!

Recommended Posts

Well here is my update. I got to the hospital at about 1:30 and was on the table at 3:15. I was ok a little nervouse leading up to it but when they put the iv in and all that it got REAL. The hospital would not let my son in to see me in the "staging area" if you will, The nurse was nice enough to let me out of bed so I could go the hall and see my wife and son. I looked him right in his little eyes (he is 5) and told him that he means the world to me and daddy loves him with all his heart. I would love to post what he responded with but.. it was one of those very emotional things..and coming from a 5 year old got me all chocked up.. Anyway!! here I am a day out from the surgery and feeling a little better. My lower back was the worst of it when waking. it was horrible. I get some sharp pains on my left side and was told it is gas. I have yet to pass gas and never thought I would be eagerly awaiting it but I am!!!! Well that's my story so far every thing went great so far and just taking it one day at a time,

Thanks all!!! the support and just reading others exp has helped me a great deal!

I still don't get how gas that is put into your abdominal cavity to expand your belly so they can do surgery, is supposed to find it's way into your intestinal tract and be released. Can someone please explain this to me? lol It doesn't make any sense at all to me, unless our colons are that porous! Anyone?

@@rmag - Congratulations! Walking will help with the gas pains. This too shall pass and especially once you drink the barium for your post op imaging study do NOT trust a fart. That stuff can wreck havoc with your system for a couple of days post op, then things should return to their new normal.

@ - you are correct, not all the gas will be released via the colon, but some of it will (every little bit helps). That is why so many folks get gas pains in their shoulders (because when they sit up the gas rises to the top). Either way movement (walking) shoulder rubs (if pain in shoulders) helps work it out. However, if he is experiencing some pain in the side it is likely that it could be relieved via passing wind the old fashioned way.

@@FocusOnMeNow Thank you so much for the clarification! This has been troubling me since surgery and no one has answered me before! Thanks :)

So let's remember to remind people who are in pain that walking helps to dissipate the gas they blow you up with, not farting! LOL But if you are having side pains you might need to let one rip. hehehehe Hey we've all been through this surgery or going to be going through it. It's good to just clear the air. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
