Are you still on purees?

These were pretty much my staples on soft/purees: I had chicken salad almost every day for lunch during that stage. The canned chicken breast is soft/moist enough and makes it really fast and easy to prepare. tuna salad. Ricotta cheese with some Marinara sauce. Refried Beans with Sharp cheddar and a little salsa. I was allowed Tilipia on my soft food/puree stage. Soft scrambled egg. Cottage cheese.

I am just a week out from my surgery date, so I am trying a bunch of recipes to see what I may come up with.

Yesterday I made a casserole type dish that would be a puree blend. LOL

Puree or diced tomatoes, then ricotta cheese, then mashed cauliflower, then chopped spinach, topped with some mushrooms. A bit of Cabela's seasoning and it was delish!

I love ricotta and mashed cauliflower.

At your place in time (4 1/2 weeks) I was just starting regular cooked foods. Except for cauliflower and extremely spicy things like jalepeno, I could eat any moist meat or non-starchy veg I wanted, although in a far reduced quantity from the old me. At the soft stage, I was already eating the same variety, but broken down in the blender.

Hopefully you will be on regular foods soon. It will help you to get to a more normal schedule of eating. It helped me to make casseroles and crockpot dishes, because they could cook up pretty soft.

The two free online cookbooks below have a variety of recipes for your food stage. The books are organized into food stages liquid, full liquid, pureed, soft foods, normal, etc.

Each cookbook can be printed out (no copyright) and is a few hundred pages. I went to Kinko's to print it out, punch hole all the pages, and place in a binder for easy viewing. It's a great resource to have when you want something a little different to eat or feel creative in the kitchen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
