I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this pain I am having. I was sleeved Tuesday and starting Thursday I get this weird burning pain below my ribs that sometimes travels up to my throat. It feels like someone squeezes their way up. I keep telling my husband it's like a muscle contracting painfully. It isn't constant. Sometimes it happens once and goes away, but this last time it was like 10 in a row and that was slightly unbearable.

Are you taking Prilosec, or another heartburn med? I know my heartburn feels drastically different after the sleeve. Just a thought

I second that! 3 1/2 months out & I still take my prilosec every other day.

Omeprazole was prescribed for me for 6 months post surgery. I take it morning and night. I think reflux is expected. it should resolve itself after a couple of months. Ask the Doc for Prilosec or Omeprazole.

Maybe it's an esophageal spasm. For me it feels like a heart attack and is super painful. It comes on suddenly and all I have to do is drink some Water to stop it. I had these before surgery and a long history of GERD. I take a PPI daily and that helps minimize these symptoms. Best to check with your physician though if it keeps happening.

I had that and at 9 weeks out still do. It's gas bubbles for me and Gas-X works well on it.

I am two weeks post op and had this last Thurs. Man... this tight burning feeling woke me up out of a deep sleep. I had to slowly get out of bed it hurt so much. I grabbed a bottle of Water and sipped and it slowly subsidded, but then I went downstairs and got a gasX and this took care of it. I was told I could have a sugar free mints and had one before bed. Never again will I do that. I haven't had this pain since.

Fortunately this pain has gone away. I have been taking my antacid daily and have been doing well with my Water and Protein. Not sure what it was or what made it go away, but I am sure glad it's gone. Hopefully it doesn't come back!

I've heard sugar alcohols can cause this (i.e. sugar free drinks and foods). Downside of many of our Protein drinks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
