Issues with my eye sight and glasses since I no longer have diabetes

Recommended Posts

Before my RNY I had very bad diabetes and had a different Rx. for my eye glasses. My glasses that I had made when I had real bad issues with my diabetes are not working so well now since I no longer take the meds for it and no longer have sugar problems. I am wearing a pair of glasses I had made before I really had any problems with diabetes. So it seems like my vision has gotten better since I don't have sugar issues anymore ????... Has anyone else experienced this problem?

My vision has greatly improved. Prior to surgery I had been diagnosed as a diabetic, but post surgery I am now fine. I'm a lot healthier in more ways than one. My sight is back to near perfect, but my focus is an issue so they are treating that.

Did you have dizziness? I have been super dizzy for the last two weeks and started wondering if it could be my eyes. I had blood work last week but it is not back yet. I think I will make an eye appt too!

Recently I got strict about my tracking and trying to lower my blood sugar (had been in the 400s). Now that its down to the mid- to high- 100s I'm noticing everything close up is very blurry. Has anyone experienced this? Do you think my eyesight will stabilize as my blood sugar stabilizes to a more normal level? Should I see an optometrist or an ophthalmologist?

Charity, I would go with an opthamologist they are also MDs as well as eye specialists. Sounds like your eyes are going farsighted, early for it to be part of aging, so get it checked out. Might just need a new glasses prescription.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
