just1275 4 Posted August 28, 2015 Am five months out from RNY and doing well, lost about 39kg so far and generally well although last week or two have been very very tired and drained. I stopped Protein shakes about a month ago and I wondered if that's the trigger? Are Protein Shakes a lifetime thing?
esskay77 785 Posted August 28, 2015 Protein Shakes are NOT a lifetime thing. In fact, at some point, they want you to get your Protein from food rather than the drinks. I don't remember when but fairly early on when you are in the solid food phase.
just1275 4 Posted August 28, 2015 Yeah I have been on solids for ages and thought I was doing okay but last fortnight have gradually got more and more exhausted and drained. Will see how it goes, but do feel a bit better today after two Protein supplements.< /p>
esskay77 785 Posted August 28, 2015 Are you counting how many grams of Protein you eat? Seems like you have to get somewhere between 60-100 grams of protein per day.
James Marusek 5,244 Posted August 28, 2015 Your required Protein is the Protein obtained from meals combined with the protein obtained from protein supplements (protein shakes and protein bars). If you concentrate on eating meals with a high protein content, then you can begin to offload the number of Protein Shakes you consume each day.
epiphani 28 Posted August 29, 2015 I completely agree with James! Life doesn't have to be all Protein shakes or none. Tracking intake for Protein and going by how you feel can help. If you feel better, having a Protein shake may be just the ticket. Just don't make it your primary source. You have some great questions for the dietitian at your surgeons office! Are you working out? It can be hard to keep us with your bodies protein requirements, especially for men and/or those who are working out.
just1275 4 Posted August 29, 2015 I've started cycling to work and back or walking, so that's about 6km a day additional exercise which might well be why my Protein intake isn't enough, feeling a bit better today so will see how it goes thanks guys
