Band to Sleeve Revision Leaks?

Recommended Posts

I just had my band out a month ago and going for sleeve surgery on October 8th. My doctor said my stomach needs two months to heal before he could do the revision to the sleeve surgery. I've been nervous lately about leaks, has anyone had a revision to the sleeve and then had a leak?Tyia

I did the same as you. Band out in April. Sleeved in June. Sounds like you have s great surgeon. Doing the surgery in 2 parts greatly reduces the chance of a leak. You will be fine! Good luck and come back with any questions.

Hi, I've just had my band to sleeve revision carried out this week in one go. Having read this read I'm now worried that this process should have involved two steps. My surgeon never suggested that I should have two separate operations. Why do you think having two separate surgeries reduce the chances of a leak? Please reply as soon as possible because I'm worried. Thank you.

The chances of a leak are still extremely low!

I converted on 8/21/15. My surgeon told me that if there was any erosion from the band that he would need to suture that up, and would not be able to do both. I was fine and had both done. I really trust my surgeon (especially since he is the chief of surgery at a good sized hospital), so I know he would not have done something that could cause more harm.

Thanks everyone! For some reason I have had bad anxiety about getting a leak. I guess I am nervous since I did have a band and not sure if it did any damage to my stomach.

@@gigi14 I had band to sleeve revision and the surgeon told me that when he got inside if the band had caused any damage he would have to do a by-pass. I was his first revision but when he checked during the surgery he said all was fine and so he just sleeved me. I have been completely fine and find the sleeve ideal .Pippinleicester.

@pippinleicester. I am glad all worked out for you. My doctor mentioned I had inflammation when he took the band out but didn't say erosion. I am scheduled Oct 8th for the sleeve.

@@gigi14 There is no surprise you have inflamation, I know I had an awful time with the last few weeks of having the band.In fact I finished up in ITU and it had to be removed as an emergency as I could not even drink water.Let me reassure you that at least in my own experience the sleeve has been completely different and I have no regrets at all, only that I wish I had been sleeved from the start.Pippinleicester

I had my revision on August 6th and my surgeon did a drain that way if a leak occurred I would know right away. They should do a contrast before you drink anything. My only regret is that I waited this long for my revision. As of yesterday I am down 35 pounds. So much easier than lap band was for me. You will do great because we have the eat slow and chew our food slowly down pat! Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
