A received a phone call today, but I couldn't answer it at the time. She left a voicemail that just said she was a Nurse Health Coach from my insurance company and that she wanted to talk about my health.

I tried to call her back but got her VM and it was almost 5pm so I will have to wait to talk to her til tomorrow.

I assume it has to do with my surgeon submitting request for approval for my bypass surgery at the end of last week.

Still waiting for approval... Just wondering if t is a good thing they assigned me a health coach or not...

I am hoping that means that are approving me... ????

Did this happen to anyone else? What kind of things did she talk to you about?

My insurance company requires Five phone calls from the nurse. You talk about eating habits, your pre-op weight loss plan, and address any questions you might have.

I received a call that was similar from a nurse tied to my health insurance company. It seems if I remember correctly she was interested in the medicines I was taking. It seemed like a meaningless call. After the surgery, I received another call from the same office. I told her my diabetes and high blood pressure were in remission and that I was no longer taking any prescription medicine for those conditions.

I think I also remember telling her that I was attending Bariatric Surgery Support Group meetings.

I get these same calls. As @@James Marusek indicated, I think it is tied to the medications being taken. In my case, they wanted to talk about my diabetes (I don't have diabetes, but I do have metabolic syndrome, which uses some similar medications). It seemed pretty useless to me, they didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

I have gotten a few calls from a nurse with my insurance. Then she left a message saying she wanted to help with my health. Maybe I'll give her a call tomorrow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
