Will I ever be able to have a peanut butter cup after VSG?

So I love Peanut Butter cups!! Will there ever be one in my future? I found organic white chocolate ones by Justins. Any thoughts?

Yes, you will be able to eat anything you want, probably as soon as your doctor releases you back on full foods. But if you are like me, my taste buds changed after not having any processed sugar for over a month. The old favorites just didn't taste as good and in my opinion, weren't worth eating anymore, because the taste wasn't good enough to justify eating the empty calories. You may find new favorite flavors like I did. Brussel sprouts are something I never ate pre-op, now I love them and can eat them as a meal in themselves.

You could learn to make your own, low carb high Protein versions. Or you could try these

I eat regular Reese's Peanut Butter cups occasionally. I will say that I didn't incorporate them into my diet plan until I had lost the majority of my weight and entered into my maintenance phase. I do just fine with them and don't get sick. I had the sleeve 14 months ago.

That being said, I track all my food and only allow a treat after I have met my Protein goals and make sure that I don't exceed my average calories for the day.

Also, you may not like peanut butter cups after your surgery. It's crazy how your tastes can change sometimes. Pre op I loved loved Pasta, rice, bread, chips. After surgery I have no cravings for any of those things and do not even like the taste that much. chocolate is another matter. LOL. I didn't even like chocolate before my surgery. I just eat in now in careful moderation and it works for me!!

It's a good idea to wait to consume high carb foods, such as sugar, flour, Pasta, bread, potatoes, starchy veggies and rice until you lose the weight. These things cause cravings for many people and will also slow or stop weight loss.

After that time, you may not even have a craving for them anymore.

You could substitute healthier options such as:

The Quest ones

chocolate Protein powder, PB2, crushed ice and Water in a bullet

A spoon of Peanut Butter with sugar free Chocolate sauce

Going into major life altering surgery, you should focus on how to be successful, not on the foods you will miss. That will lead to problems for you. You need to change your relationship with food, get creative and come up with satisfying, bariatric surgery friendly alternatives.

Thanks for the reminder. I had completely forgotten about Quest Cravings. They are a pretty good substitute for Reece's Cups, but they are a bit on the dry side - they seem to have a powdered Peanut Butter center. The only down side is the expense. I think I had to pay $2.00 for a pack of 2 cups.

I actually like the expense and lack of general availability. That keeps them the rare occurrence.

They are great if you keep them in the fridge.

Sure you can have them. Word of advice. Organic doesn't mean calorie free. I like Justin's and eat them on occasion. I can't eat the heavily processed stuff and sometimes you just want a piece of real chocolate. As long as it's truly a once in a while thing, ENJOY!

I eat both the normal Reese PB cups and the diabetic sugar free Reese PB cups. I usually eat them as a snack and limit myself to only a few (less than 4) per week. It also helps that my girlfriend has a nut allergy so that kinda helps keep my cravings in check when everytime I eat one I have to go brush my teeth before she'll let me near her. As long as you learn proper moderation and don't over do it slipping back into old unhealthy habits I don't see why you can't have one or two every now and then. But I would totally recommend looking for the healthy options first before going full blown Reese. The sugar free Reese are as good as the regular ones.

I like adding PB2 to the WonderSlim dark chocolate flavored Protein pudding. It tastes pretty darn good. You can also try adding PB2 to chocolate Protein Shakes.< /p>

I too would also recommend the PB2 with chocolate whey protein as a PB cup cravings substitute as well. I know when I was about 4/5 months post op I was having some strong Reese's cravings and the PB2 helped to carb the hell out of those cravings big time. I still use PB2 in some of my protein mixes. But again as with the normal and sugar free Reese's have to watch consuming it around the allergic girlfriend.

In the beginning I had no desire for chocolate what I ever. Now at a yr out, I want chocolate. I do my chocolate Protein Shakes for Breakfast and I make date browies when I have a craving for those. But I am about to switch to stevia for my sweetener. I still have more to lose and like someone mentioned, it had stopped my weight lose. What I am doing to losing inches and basically maintaining. And the taste buds have changed tremendously. I eat more veggies now than I have in the past.I love butternut squash, brussels sprouts, salads, cilantro and sweet potatoes. I love cilantro so much that I am growing some in my herb garden lol.

I love pnut butter as well. But I usually just do the serving size in my breakfast smoothie. I tend to forget that I consume more now than I did 1-2 months post op.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
