There is really no way to know. Some people have a much harder recovery than others. I was shocked when my discharge nurse said I could drive myself home from the hospital if I wanted, since it had been more than 4 hours since I had pain meds. I declined, but I felt well enough to do it.

I was sleeved on a Saturday and was back at work, at a desk job, on the next Thursday.

Other people take two to six weeks off, and some need every single one of those days.

Isu,

it all depends on the success of the surgeon, but in general, the operation is very well tolerated.

Second day after the operation, I was walking normally in the hospital. 3rd day, I went out of the house and had a long walk, and the afternoon I took my car and drove to the clinic for follow up.

Don't worry about it, you'll do great.

It really depends. I was taking care of myself on day 2 and went to get a pedicure. You might be able to get up and around, but you will get tired fast. Your body is using most of your energy to heal. If you can sleep while she is at school you might be able to make it. I don't think you can take care of a 3 year old alone though, you are going to need some help. She is going to have far more energy than you have.

I was sleeved on a Monday and on Wednesday I drove my 3 kids to the dentist 20 minutes away. Thursday and Friday I drove my daughter to and from camp. Saturday I went to a party for 5 hours.

As long as you're not taking pain meds you should be fine to drive and get around. Just make sure to listen to your body.

If you have to physically pick her up, I would not plan on being able to do that for the 1st 2 weeks. I didn't feel I was ready to drive until the 5th day post-op. And that was just a short 2 mile drive to the convenience store for some sugar free popsicles. :-)

I had a very painful recovery and it was about 2 weeks before I could safely and comfortably lift more than about 10 lbs. At the end of the 8th or 9th day, 99% of my pain had faded, but before that, I didn't feel like doing much more than moving from my chair to the bed and to the bathroom.

I say, plan for the unexpected and try to plan for someone else to take your daughter to school. Then, you won't have any unexpected surprises or emergencies.

@@lsubabe33 - physically picking her up may not be cool. the biggest thing is that you will feel drained of energy :/

I don't have to physically pick her up. I just have drive thru car pool to drop off and pick up. I'm having my surgery on a Friday. So I was hoping by Monday I would feel better.

Thanks for the comments. Makes me feel better. ☺️

Friday to Monday, there are so many variables. I think it is better safe than sorry. Plan on a week of resting, at least have someone lined up to do it for you and if you feel better you can cancel.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
