LadiSani 59 Posted August 26, 2015 While waiting for insurance approval I have done my sleep study and found I have sleep apnea this week. Last week did some minor blood work for an infection and it came back with high sugar levels. Go to the doctor for that tomorrow. I started this process with thinking I was relatively healthy with only concern being HBP. Now all this. I know this means I am making the right choice to have surgery. But what else are they going to discover? Haven't even done the EGD or EKG yet. I'm starting to get beat down and afraid this is going to postpone my surgery which I don't think I will handle well at all. ????
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted August 26, 2015 afraid this is going to postpone surgery @@LadiSani for insurance approval, the more health problems you have the better "lucky" you found out issues you and insurance weren't aware of you might be approved - no problems if you are denied - make an APPEAL resubmit paperwork to insurance (sleep apnea, high sugar levels (diabetes) extra illnesses "might" help you with getting an approval good luck kathy
ShrinkingPeach 1,291 Posted August 26, 2015 Agree with @proudgrammy. It is unfortunate to find out you have these issues but having these specific issues is a positive for getting approved. Don't let it get you down, most if not all of these may be corrected with your surgery. You are absolutely right that this means you are making the right decision for your health! Good luck! shellyd88 463 Posted August 27, 2015 High sugar levels are not likely to prevent surgery if you don't have infections or fever or lung issues it will likely move forward I've had increasing blood sugars over a period of years never got to be diabetic tho or took any meds for that had this surgery because my mother developed diabetes in her late 40's from eating habits and died at age 56 due to complications of diabetes and noncompliance of diet and excercise and medications so don't panic it doesn't mean u can't have surgery in fact most likely a good reason to do it
Jessica Ellison-Correa 66 Posted August 28, 2015 having sleep apnea and diabetes is good for getting aproved esspecially if your bmi is lower or around 40 that way if you lose weight and go below a 40 bmi for most insurances
LadiSani 59 Posted August 28, 2015 (edited) I received approval yesterday after only a week without these added issues. I told my PCP that with the way things are going I am going to be diagnosed with a hiatal hernia after the EGD and heart failure after the EKG. He laughed and told me it would be fine. So for the interim a CPAP and metformin it is. Edited August 28, 2015 by LadiSani
