Stevia is also in most grocery chains now in the health food section. The deal is that it isn't an FDA deal so it can't be approved as a sweetener, so sometimes it is in with sugars and sometimes with supplements. You can also buy stevia plants at many of the national seed houses and grow your own.

As far as I'm concenred, it's the only artificial sweetener I've used that doesn't raise my blood sugar and give me gas!

Be careful with artificial sweeteners. They raise blood sugar just like regular sugar does. You save the calories, but with the blood sugar bounces, the sugar cravings are profound. Better to shoot for getting the palate away from the taste of sweets of any kind.

My goal for her is to get away from all processed foods and stick to Proteins and lower carb veggies. She doesn't know it yet but we are going to exercise as well. :) I don't plan on stopping exercising because we are away for three days and I think she'll feel uncomfortable if she doesn't move a little too.

You know, I used to work for this woman and she is *such* an amazing woman. She is SO good at her job, she's a nurse. She runs a huge company and has turned it from a tiny company that nobody has ever heard of to a huge company that is well respected in this state. Even as big as the company is at this point (and growing daily) she still has an open door policy for staff, she'll drop everything she is doing if an employee wants to discuss anything from a professional issue to a personal issue. All employees are treated with respect and dignity by her and it's not for show, it's for real. The only thing I regret about leaving that company is that I didn't learn everything she knows before leaving.

If I needed something... ANYTHING for a patient but we would lose money on it she would always, 100% of the time tell me to go for it. Patient care always comes first with her. If I needed something, a drug... whatever, she made sure I had it for the patients. When she's at work she's this person with all the courage in the world. She knows her stuff and knows it well. She knows how to get things done. She is strong, capable, and able at work. At home... she's so shy and timid she's like a whole different person. She said she's always been that way. She feels confident at work but not in her personal life. If she could take just 10% of what she has within her personality at work and bring it home with her she could do this without a problem.

I find to stop sugar cravings have some protein.. good one is nuts such as almonds, not many try 3 or 4 chew really well, they are healthy even though calorie dense, this works for me and I'm a sugar junkie, also keeps one full longer too . Hope this helps, bless you all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
