Chromium Supliment

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone else has try'd the "Chromium" supliments out there. I am told that they are especially effective for people that have sugar addictions like myself. I just orderd some today, and I sure hope they will help curb some of my desire for sugar sweet goodies. Anyone with any first hand try's of the supliment?

Dave

I have never heard that but, I too crave sugar. It is a terrible addiction and I think that is truly what it is. I would be interested in knowing if it works also.

I haven't used them but I have known someone who did that lost a ton of weight. It helps to balance your blood sugar so you can stay away from carbs. That combined with cycling, he lost a ton of weight. Its worth a try if you are a sugar/carb addict.

I have a friend that has such a horrible sugar addiction and she just can't break the cycle of suger/craves more sugar that we are going out of town for three days. She won't be eating the stuff while *I* am there! We are hoping that breaking the blood sugar spikes/cycles that will help. She has about 200lbs to lose and in 6 months she's only lost 40lbs.

It's a horror trying to break that cycle but once you break the cycle and stop all sugar for several days, then it is easier to maintain but the first few days are a buggar.

I agree the first few days are the WORST, WasaBB and I totally agree that you have got to stay away from all refined/processed sugars. And you need to stop drinking things with artificial sweeteners in them. Artificial sweeteners intensify my snacking and sugar cravings. I have switched to Stevia or Blue Agave nectar.

But WasaBB, I can't imagine saying someone has ONLY lost 40lbs in six months... That's fantastic and healthy loss at about 1-2lbs per week. I lost about that in six months and was THRILLED. Should I now reevaluate and be sad that I only lost 44lbs in six months? You know I luv ya, woman, and I'm not picking at you to be mean, but I just think that is a good loss.

Not quite .... She lost 20lbs on the pre-op diet and 20 pounds during Clear liquids. She's lost one pound in the last 5 months. :)

Ahhh, I understand now.

And adding the sugar and candy, well that's a no-brainer, is she a nutter? I admit, I ate some cotton candy (a little bit, and accounted for it's 110 calories per serving on my fitday) the past couple of days. But I can't imagine sticking to 800 calories a day and then sabotaging myself by eating candy. Heck, if I'm eating 2000 calories a day, I'm for darned sure it will be yummy food!

She's just a huge huge sugar addict. It's overwhelming. She's even considering bypass just so she'll dump if she eats sweets.

No way, I couldn't do that to myself.

With her luck she'll be one of the ones that has no problem with sugar. Everyone I know personally who has the RNY has no problem after about 6 mos to a year out with sugar.

Getting a bypass won't be an option for her. I'll block the hospital doors so she can't get in. Besides, I don't believe her insurance pays for WLS and that means she'd have to go back to Mexicali and I have a hunch Dr. Aceves wouldn't just convert to bypass merely because of sugar issues. I think he'd insist she work on it a bit harder before resorting to another procedure.

I didn't know dumping wasn't a life long issue. I'll have to mention that to her.

I had my appointment for bypass 2/17/07 but artificial sugars give me headaches. I was told I would be dependent on them for the rest of my life. After lots of soul searching I opted for the lapband. I was not ready for that much of a life change. I am very addicted to sugar. And when you have your sugar fix you are more confident in saying, okay that is it, no more sugar. Then the low comes, it is a hard few days but when you kick the sugar for a few days, hit a hard Atkins type till you are so sick of cheese and meat but then the sugar craving is subsided untill you feed it again. Remembering the hard few days to get it out of your system often helps me avoid an impulse for sweets. Just not worth it. I have heard of stevia, where can I get some? I would like to try it. Thanks for listening!

I have seen it as Hi Health and GNC. I'm pretty sure most health food stores would have it. I've never looked for it so I'm sure other places have it as well, I'm just not aware of it.

BTW... I keep reading the above. You and my friend sound exactly alike! I wish she would come here and post because she would see herself in the above.

We are going out of town (I think) next weekend. The whole idea is to get away from sugar. Before she puts it in her mouth I will make sure it is sugar free. Otherwise, she can't have it. That's the whole purpose of the trip. I was surprised when she agreed to my idea. I'm hoping this works.

Be careful with artificial sweeteners. They raise blood sugar just like regular sugar does. You save the calories, but with the blood sugar bounces, the sugar cravings are profound. Better to shoot for getting the palate away from the taste of sweets of any kind.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
