Aussie girl sleeve Fri 28 August!

Recommended Posts

All going well over here - 17kgs down, just over 2 months since surgery. Clothes loser, energy levels up, tarted socialising again.

Currently in a cottage ni Cornwall with friends, then head back to London for 2 days before a week in the Carribean....

This is aided by the fact I have worked 12 hour days the lst 2 weeks icluding weekend....so 2 weeks off was happily aporved by the boss! (Note: I am self employed.....)

I am now 8 weeks post op. Feeling really great. I did try to push myself the other night to eat dinner and threw up. I was only at 40 grams of Protein for the days so even though I wasn't feeling great before I started eating I kept going....

I find it quite difficult to get the required amount of protein in each day. I am forcing myself to eat when I am not hungry at all.

At least the Water is now easier to get down now.

Including 2 weeks of Optifast, I am down 25kg which is very encouraging.

Great to see we are all doing so well.

Congratulations everyone ????????

Froody, those two cups of non starchy vegetables are a life saver. I was also told to have 1tsp of oil per day.

This meant I could have a salad at lunch with balsamic vinegarette and a small bowl of veggie Soup at dinner.

The first three days are really hard and then the hunger subsides. The last few days suck as you are just so over eating the same thing everyday, but by then you are well into countdown mode!

Glad everyone is doing well. Four weeks down and all is going well. I've lost 12 kgs since day one of Optifast.

I agree, the first three days are the hardest...I had the worst headache.

I too am finding it hard to get maximum Protein and Water intake although I feel like I am drinking all day!

I am currently on purée but am moving to soft. I even had half a sausage yesterday! I'm starting to eat similar meals to the rest of the family...within reason and just a lot smaller.

Hi all. Great to hear all the updates. Fish is a really good way to get in Protein. I found salmon with mashed potato great. Any kind of fish goes down well in soft phase then oysters, prawns, crab etc great when full diet.

I don't eat meat, so I think it means everything is so bulky. I have been making my own Seitan which has heaps of Protein in it, so that is helping.

If in need of a Protein kick, and as an added bonus of Calcium and a count towards your liquids, drink 500mls of semi-skim milk (Light White) - is the perfect snack.< /p>

When I started out I drank cyborg sports ultra lean Protein drinl which is a powdered sugar free drink. Protein and Fluid in one!

What is the consistency like? Is it thick and milky or more like cordial?

It is a cordial so a nice change from Water. No carbs. I bought mine online from nutrition warehouse (I think). It is quite expensive initially but lasts for ages.

That sounds great. I have found it online. The milky one I have now is really hard to hold down. Thanks for the information.

Congrats on the op. Hope all goes well.

Hey Hon! Im frm Sydney, but living in London for 5.5 years. Having my sleeve 17th Sept over here. How you doing?

Hi I'm from Aus and have been living over seas for 5 yrs. I had the surgery about 2 yrs ago and have lost about 51.5kg and maintain around 63 to 65kg. It is the best thing any of you can do for yourself. I haven't told any family or friends about it except Husband, Son and Sister that's it. It has been easier as we only visit once a year. I forgot to mention my Husband was sleeved on the same day and he has lost about 55kg. We had our surgery in Brisbane

I have told a few friends and close family back home, and friends here face to face (mostly) so that I could answer their questions. Having knowlege can be dangerous - but you have decided to go ahead regardless of what you know already wich makes you really brave as well!

I figure that by letting my friends and family know they will make sure I stay accountable. I am also blogging the journey - http://aussiefoodiesjourney.blogspot.co.uk/

Where in Oz are you?

Love your blog

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
