Aussie girl sleeve Fri 28 August!

Recommended Posts

Hey hon - surgery went well, 4 keyholes, 15 staples. Was home less than 24 hours after I checked in. Puked a lot of contrast dye the first day, but nothing thrown up since. Slowly getting my liquids in, had half a scrambled egg this morning, about to have some milk. Not much bruising, really tired though. And gassy, god I am gassy!

Hi all. Sorry it's been a while. Life got crazy for a bit. I'm nearly 4 weeks post op and had the 3 week stall!!! So frustrating - same weight all week. I guess I had already lost 11kgs so can't really complain and I don't want to lose too fast as many ppl don't know I've had the surgery. I have more energy, finding stairs easier already, doing more walking. Yesterday we had a big family lunch and I was able to eat enough over 2 hours that no one seemed suspicious. Fish is by far the easiest thing but I also had a spoonful of curry with rice. Cheesecake for dessert was just too easy to eat but I only had a sliver. At work I'm mainly having a yogurt for morning & afternoon tea - same one half/half and a shake for lunch. What other things work well on soft diet? Mushrooms going down well for breakfast! Did anyone else get the 3 week stall??

It's been so good to have someone to have doing it aswell! I certainly would not have got through it without her!! I've been having a tough time mentally, struggling with regret.. Am starting to feel better though, start puréed stage today and back to work tomorrow!

I don't think I have regrets. It's a wake up call both how little we need to eat to survive and also that I will never eat a 3 course meal again. I wish there was a different way I could have done it but I truly believe the science - that only 10% of people once obese will ever be able to return to a 'normal weight' long term. This surgery gets rid of the hormones that work against us in losing weight. But it's still up to us to break the unhealthy dependency on food

The first 2 weeks after surgery all I had was regret, I was so sick and miserable. But as I've recovered more I don't really have any so far.. I am the same, wish I didn't have to do it but I saw no other choice for me to get healthy..

Starting to get a little nervous, but looking forward to the start of a much healthier future.

It seems so individual how people recover from surgery. That is what worries me most. Some people are feeling pretty good two days post op, and others take weeks.

I am also having my gallbladder removed during the surgery.

It really is the choice for a happier healthier future! We all need to remember what that extra weight does to us now - but also way ahead through old age.

Re: varied recovery, I guess I was pretty lucky but I think going in with your eyes wide open - you're going to be sore the first couple of days. That wind pain is real. Walking as soon as possible helps it. Don't lie down completely flat in hospital ever. I just used the button for pain relief the first day - didn't get up to the loo til late in the evening - but by the early morning I could manage the pain without the button and because they can give IV Panadol that helped a lot.

Tell the Anaesthetist that you are really worried about vomiting post op and he will make sure he writes up stuff for you to have if you are nauseous . I felt that the first day or two but not since.

You can do it! It's a great step forward for your life. Good luck too Reetz you're this week too?!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
