How much liquids should i get in daily

Recommended Posts

Hello! I had my sleeve on 8/20/15 and i am happy to say i am 15 lbs down, i was only required to do a 3 day liquid diet prior to surgery to which i lost 6lbs. I have been doing great..i guess im just a little confused on how much Water and liquids im supposed to be getting in. I was self pay and had it done out of the country so i guess i left alot of simple questions un answered and lately this app has been of great help! :)

Thanks in advnace! ;)

I am preop but my understanding from my reading is that for the first few days shoot for at least 48 oz/day with a goal being at least 64 oz/day. That's 8 cups of liquid (counting Protein Drinks if you use these).

At least 64 oz. It may take some time to work up to 64 oz. but its important to try your best to get there.

Edited: because apparently autocorrect is insane.

At a minimum 64 oz a day. You basically have to sip constantly throughout the day. I have heard of people taking Water bottles and marking them with 8 am, 10 am, 12 pm....etc. and making sure you have sipped to that point by that time.

Please stay hydrated!

My dr said do what YOU can. I had Water nausea and got in a few water bottles a day. I was a little weak at times, but I physically could not get in anymore.

My doc told me today at my appt u should be drinking half of your body weight in oz.

for example:

I weigh 226, so I should be drinking 113 oz of Water a day

Even the first days though? That sounds almost impossible :(

It is :) Just do the very best you can.

Also, did anyone see the study out today saying the 64 oz of Water thing is a bunch of hooey?

No babbs. Haven't seen that. I was told to drink in ounces the number of inches you are tall. I am 5'7" so my goal is 67 oz. I still find it a challenge!

I have been putting a sprig of mint in my jugs of Water.

Anything That helps????

I'm just not much on artificial sweeteners like crystal light

I like using the app called Hydro Coach. You can set reminders and also set goals and time frames for you to drink the Water. I use it on my android phone.

Can someone help me? I am 2 days post op (today is Wednesday had surgery on Monday) and every time I drink I feel bubbles, nausea and like I have a lump in my throat. I mean I drink little ounce and I feel sick. Is this normal? If so, how long does this last?

It is normal. I would recommend slowing down even more. Take even smaller sips (practically drips) and try Popsicles and crushed ice/ice chips. That way the liquid just melts down your throat.

You are going to be really swollen for a while so just go slow but keep trying. It does get much better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
