Bariatric food products

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I was just sleeved on 8/17. I bought a couple of food items from a bariatric store to try them. One was a cream of broccoli Soup and I bought two boxes of bariatric hot chocolate. I also bought unflavored Protein - Syntrax nectar. The Soup was gross. Maybe if I made it with chicken broth instead of Water it could possibly be good. The cocoa was pretty good but it's expensive.

My question is - could I just buy a SF cocoa I like and add the unflavored Protein powder to it? Anyone else do this? Any other tips or tricks for getting in enough Protein and not breaking the bank? The Syntrax Nectar was the least expensive unflavored protein option at the store and I had heard good things about it on the board here. 40 servings for $18.95

I add 2tbs sf Jello pudding mix to my unflavored Protein and it tastes just like chocolate milk

Use real cocoa recipes and sub stevia for the sugar. Make with fairlife milk. Real food is more satisfying and better for you.

Just be careful about the temperatures when adding Protein Powder to hot cocoa, Soup, etc. Most Protein powders will curdle if you put them in a liquid over 130F, so using a food thermometer is critical. You can also try mixing the protein powder separately with lukewarm Water into a kind of slurry, and then stirring that into the hotter liquid. That sometimes prevents curdling.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
