I've been reading many of the post here, and I see that many of you are extremely knowledgeable and well educated regarding this permanent procedure we have all elected. Before having surgery I felt like I knew everything there was to know, I constantly tried to educate myself, and still do daily, but now not even 3 weeks out I feel completely LOST. The first week post surgery everything went great, I was able to drink Water and eat with no problems, now almost 3 weeks out it seems to be getting harder to keep anything down. Today everything I ate I immediately threw up ( including water) is this normal? Every time I eat I feel as if I'm having a heart attack. I get this horrible pain in my chest and I'm unable to breath. Has anyone else experienced this awful feeling? Am I eating too fast? Too much? I'm on the puréed stage right now maybe I need to go back just to liquids a bit longer ???? I was only able to drink 16 oz of Water today which means I will be @ the doctors tomorrow getting hooked up to an IV so I don't get dehydrated ( not ideal ) but I just can't keep anything down.

I'm feeling discouraged.

Please call your surgeon first thing tomorrow morning. In the mean time, keep trying to get your fluids in. I don't like the idea that you were doing fine before, and now all of the sudden you're having these issues. I always worry about a stricture when I hear that! Keep us posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
