Shakti 55 Posted August 25, 2015 Has anyone had this experience??? I was scheduled for today, but... I'd had a sore throat for days, but was not really 'sick sick' so thought nothing of it, although I did call my docs office over the weekend to make sure. He said most likely it would not be a problem. i got up at the crack of dawn, arriving at the hospital 6:00 am for my 7:30 surgery with my entire family in tow. Still had a sore throat. My temperature was just over 99. So between those 2 factors, and based on the fact that I have a narrow throat passage making intubation more difficult, they sent me home. Mad? No. Disappointed? yes, very very. I'd been on 10 day Protein diet and 2 day all liquid and was absolutely starving by this morning. I was so ready. I saw my primary doc who thought the surgeon may have overreacted, but nevertheless respected his decision. She put me on a course of antibiotics just to be careful. Kind of hard to move ahead after this. I also can't go back to old habit of eating my emotions. : (
justme29 76 Posted August 25, 2015 Sorry that happened to you! But it's best to be 100% before going forward. I hope that you can move past this and still be successful at a later date!
Daisee68 2,493 Posted August 25, 2015 I'm so sorry that happened to you! They really were looking out for your best interest though. I had a nurse tell me when I was in the hospital once that they had a patient who hadn't revealed he had been sick and he ended up in ICU for a week. You do not want to go in to a surgery with a fever. I hope they can reschedule ASAP!
BarrySue 602 Posted August 25, 2015 Ugh, that is AWFUL! I'm so sorry. I know the doctor simply did what he thought was best, but it's like "LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD, BUCKO!"
shellyd88 463 Posted August 25, 2015 It was the elevated temp that did it I have a few nurses in my family and if your temp isn't normal you could have an infection or a virus they will postpone sorry hope you feel better and get rescheduled soon
rking 484 Posted August 25, 2015 with any surgery I have ever had they made it clear that I could have any signs of 'sickness' or the surgery would not happen. I am so sorry that happened to you. Get on the phone and get that surgery scheduled. Tell them to make it soon!!!!
Shakti 55 Posted August 25, 2015 Thanks all. Due to logistics (on my side, not docs) I don't see this happening until probable early october. I can live with that, except for the fact that my head was so in the game for yesterday, and due to knowing myself and my old habits I have a fear of once again going on a binge (knowing how tough that 2 week liquid fast was, and in reaction to it) and putting back on those 15 pre-op pounds I fought so hard to lose. I know it was for the best and my safety, of course. But that is the logical and not the emotional side!
tera1982 194 Posted August 25, 2015 I'm sorry...I also got postponed(for different reasons). I am not handling as well as you, though. I'm not overeating, in fact, quite the opposite. Anyhow, I hope you have a speedy recovery from the cold(?) and are able to reschedule soon!
Nylaj 45 Posted August 25, 2015 Having a fever & an infection while under the knife could lead to death.. Be thankful instead of angry. You will get a new day. Just be positive.. Thinking positive makes you positive. Hang in there! You got this!
Shakti 55 Posted August 26, 2015 Nylaj - Wow I knew it could make recovery more difficult but seriously, death? I am actually good now. Rescheduled for October 5 due to my scheduling complications not theirs, and I'm fine with that.
