Excited to find this thread. I just bought a new, last years model Trek 8.4 DS. So far I have only ridden a little as it is too cold here in Michigan. So looking forward to spring. @@Indieflickers did you ever get a comfortable fit? I hope so. I also got the cheap Amazon padded shorts. Hoping they work ok. I also got a slightly more comfortable saddle and some clip less pedals and shoes. It will be hard to sit inside all winter with the bike in the garage!

I was going to suggest a trainer too.. I think my husband got me one for Christmas... another alternative I HIGHLY suggest is spinning/cycling classes at the gym.. trainers are good, but aren't going to give you strength rides, unless you do it yourself.

Thanks! I was excited we had 60 degree temps this weekend. Got my new pedals and sadle on and rode 5 miles. Got to get my behind used to it. Slowly but surely!

I'm now three years out from my roux en y gastric bypass surgery. For the first two years I used a treadmill for exercise; I started just walking and finally got to the point of running -- never thought I would do that again. This past year I started cycling and am loving it. I have a turbo trainer for my bike during the winter and am using Trainer Road software and also Zwift. Cycling has given me the extra motivation to want to lose more weight and to get healthier.

Have been on the site since June and just now found this group. I have been riding an adult tricycle since April 2014. I can't walk due to a injury in 1990 so I figured with bad balance a tricycle would be best. I just had 3 surgeries on Jan 26th and am healing nicely. When did you all start biking again after your surgery?

I would like to do a Bike challenge in Feb 2017 of Biking around Lake Okeechobee in Port Mayaca Fl for the Loop around the Lake for Literacy. They have 4 distance loops and I am going to try to do the 14 mile Loop. Any ideas on how I should train for this? I checked with them this year as this year's Loop is Saturday and they said I could use my Tricycle for next years event. .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
