klm0392 0 Posted August 24, 2015 Post-Op, had the surgery 8/20. Based on everyone's experience when should be the first time, how often should I weigh myself? I have a post-op appointment tomorrow so I'm sure they will weigh me then but I don't want to be obsessed with checking the scale. What do you guys do? McButterpants 2,846 Posted August 24, 2015 Once per week worked for me - in the beginning, I would weigh myself once a day (sometimes more than that). I would lose it if I didn't lose anything or *gasp* gained a fraction of a pound. For me, I can't weigh every day and keep my sanity. My husband went so far as to hide the scale from me and brought it out once per week. I'm nearing 2 years out and I weigh myself once a week or so. Some will say they need the accountability and weigh themselves every day. Whatever works for you - I'm not sure there is a "right answer"
Gingerish 113 Posted August 24, 2015 Personally I waited for 1 week after surgery due to Water retention, swelling, all that hospital stuff. Then I started weighing daily for the next while. Now it's every few days . Everybody is different
WorkinOnMe 596 Posted August 24, 2015 Whatever works for you! I only weighed at dr appts for the first 6 weeks. After that, I only weigh once a week.
jane13 2,256 Posted August 24, 2015 I would try to not eat or drink too much and weigh in the same clothes when you get home to see the difference. that way you will have a idea where you are for the next appt. I weigh daily, first thing in the morning.
cjnorris 103 Posted August 24, 2015 For the first six months, I only weighed at my dr appointment. Now I weight every two weeks. I was never disappointed and I refused to give my power to the scale. Follow your plan and the weight will come off. Everyone is different so beware not to compare yourself to others.
jordantaylor 51 Posted August 26, 2015 It has taken me almost 4 months to stop obsessing over the scale. It's not easy. If I could go back in time and save myself some anguish, I'd probably throw away my scale and only get weighed at the doctors office. Clothes and photos are a much better indicator. But really, do what works for you!
MisforMimi 760 Posted August 26, 2015 I always weigh on a Thursday, my surgery date with only a few variations. Honestly, I wish I could obsess over the scale. It would be so much easier than these other things my brain has picked up!
Rogofulm 2,440 Posted August 26, 2015 I weigh myself every day and have for 14 months since surgery. If something's not right, I want to know it and get a handle on it immediately. Not next week. Putting off facing the music until "next week" is what got me here. Good luck!
