MEGA Stall - Need some tips to break it

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm officially a year out now and it's the hardest I've ever worked for anything in my life! I'm stuck now for the last month at the same weight and can't seem to break it. I'm still journaling all my food and I'm working out 5-6 days a week for an hour to hour & half each time. I'm getting the extra Protein to cover the workout and even though I do occasionally have something that is not 100% good, I never go over 1000 calories a day. I alternate my workouts to include strength training too. Am I not eating enough? I know I'm building muscle but I really want to get the scale to move! I'm so close to goal! ARGH!!!!

Have any of you had anything work for jump starting your body? HELP!!

Cut back on your workouts by two for a month. See if the extra rest days help. I was working out six days a week, but then my yoga studio closed, now I'm losing 2-3 pounds a week on average and keeping everything else the same. If it doesn't work, you can put the two days back in.

Maybe your body just needs to stall right now. Maybe you need more carbs and Protein since you are working out so much. Maybe you could call your NUT and see what he or she has to say since it is bothering you so much.

My opinion? Up your calories to 1200 -1300. We weigh about the same, and I notice when I'm not eating enough I stall out. Especially with as much as you (and I) are exercising.

And what @@Inner Surfer Girl said....

Put on some of your old fat clothes and look in the mirror. It's a better indicator of success than the scale and an arbitrary number. (I stalled for almost 3 months and just started moving slowly down again. it's how I kept my mind and my scale from discouraging me.)

I'm glad you posted this. I'm 15 months pre op & I've been stalled for about 3 months!! I'm starting today with the pre op diet. My doctor suggested I do this. I hope this works. I watch my carbs but it's hard to stay under 60 a day. My calorie count is about 1300. I think I need to lower that a bit too. I hope going back on the pre op diet will help. I hope you find your answer too.

You know I was really stalling out and thought man what in the heck is going on? So I talk to my surgeon, my nut and my trainer and even though 90% of the time I never go over 1000 calories myself they said I need to go a little higher sometimes to break that stall. So for two days I ate 1500 calories introduced some carbs that I would not normally and took off three days from the gym and when I got back on track and broke though that stall. It was kinda torture to miss the work outs and eat some thing but it was worth it cause nothing is more annoying and disheartening then hitting a stall when you are doing so well! Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
