emotional rollercoaster - 13 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I am really struggling right now. I have been stuck at 246-249 for several weeks ( I am 248 today) and I feel myself slipping into bad habits because of my frustration. I am eating too much and not the right things. I know this, yet I am still doing it. I also have zero energy to do anything, even clean the house, let alone exercise. I think my depression is rearing it's ugly head even though I am on medication. It's like a switch has been flipped. I was so happy to have lost 50 lbs and now that the scale isn't moving anymore, I am self-sabotaging. I am also not able to sleep more than 4 hours a night so I know that's not helping. I am so tired and unhappy lately. Even Lunesta isn't helping and my doc won't prescribe Ambien. I don't know what to do. I really want to stop this bad behavior before it gets worse.

I understand the depression situation. I'm 6 weeks post surgery, and I feel like my little mood stabilizing pill has become less effective, too. I'm pretty sure the key for both of us is exercise. It's Monday, a great time to set goals for the week. Start small, maybe just a walk around the block today. Then tomorrow or Wednesday you will be proud to have gotten moving and will make your walk a little longer. By the weekend you will be feeling stronger. Then plan a FUN activity you would enjoy for the weekend - definitely not cleaning your house - lol! You will be surprised how much better you feel when you get active - it's the best cure for depression, AND I bet you see the scale drop next week . Do you have a FitBit? I could use a challenger

Thanks. I know you're right. Sometimes it helps to hear someone else say it. :) I use Garmin instead of FitBit. It's a gorgeous day today. I'm just finished work so I think I will go out and get some Vitamin D and exercise.

At 13 weeks post op, your meal volume has increased. This means that if you are concentrating on high Protein meals, that your need for Protein supplements (Protein shakes and protein bars) have decreased. You can reduce these and the calories associated with these supplements.< /p>

Just a thought I had to have several medications for some medical conditions adjusted post surgery due to the malabsorption my pills were not as effective post surgery as they were pre-op. For sleep there are other things that can be done if your Doctor agrees. Sleepy time tea, relaxation sound machines, scent machines and other options could be looked into. Regarding eating more and stalls. Our bodies go through times that the weight loss does not show on the scale and/or food adjustments need to be made. I would suggest investing in a measuring tape to see if inches are coming off. Try on clothes that were tight before to see if they are getting loosely. Find other ways to motivate yourself and use this new advantage that surgery has given you. Pills just like RNY are just tools the real work comes from us. Good luck with everything.

Better, thanks. Lost another 2 lbs, so I think I might have gotten myself out of my "stall". Really trying to be conscious of what I eat and make sure I get my walking in. Think this first rough patch is over. I'm sure there will be more, but getting through them is the important thing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
