im half way there and getting nervous

Recommended Posts

this is the second time that ive been in the program. the first time i got half way through and decided that it wasnt the best time for me, also i had met with their behavior specialist and we didnt click, she told me the very first visit that i had to leave my husband and file for divorce, a little overwhelming. i am now back in the program 5 month later and i am cruising through it, i met with the nutrionist, the psychologist, and now all i have to do is meet with the surgeon. i am feeling a little scared and am having a few doubts wondering if i can handle the lap band. ive always been a fast eater and sometimes not often i like to over eat. im sure that im not the only one with these problems or there wouldnt be people getting surgery to lose weight. i just hope that i can conquer my doubts and go through with it. any feedback would be appreciated thanks

Andrea, what you are experiencing is normal. I remember right before surgery crying to myself because I felt so overwhelmed. You'll need to slow down the eating but you can do that easily. Small bites the size of an eraser will also help. I am so happy I am banded now. You will love it. Julie

Well, Andrea.... you will pretty much not have any choice but to slow down and have small meals! That's the beauty of it! And the adjustment is rather gradual so it's not an overnight thing you have to get used to. I remember thinking "there is no way I could ever do without chicken!".... but I am pretty restricted right now and am having problems with chicken....just like I knew I might ahead of time. But, it's not such a big deal as I thought it might be, mostly because EATING is not such a big deal anymore!! You can get satisfied on so little that if the chicken is sticking, you just move on to dark mean or the salad or your veggies and get full on that!

For instance, I was just having some problems with my tuna salad ... so I ate as much as I could, took a break and now I'm having a Protein bar that was in my desk drawer and a peach. No big deal.

I know it's hard to wrap your head around it, but honestly you won't be so obsessed about food as you are now. It just loses its luster. Hopefully, your new obsession will be exercise instead! It happens to many of us. You just wait and see!

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
