Surgery Tuesday

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is Tuesday and I'm getting very nervous. Had the band out a little over a month ago. I think my main short term concern is that I am going to be miserably hungry during the liquid and mushy weeks like I was when I got the band. My long term concern is that I will be unsuccessful as I was with the band and have some of the same

Problems, barfing, pain, and feeling crappy all the time.

Congratulations on the surgery!!!!Yay!!!

Nervous...normal but faith and A higher power is on your side.Prayers are in order.Positive light surrounds you.Take a deep breath ,close your eyes and see a future picture of yourself.Slim and healthy.

The crappy band that you and I should of never elected for is out of your body!!!You are going to be fine...not perfect fine...I know the feeling you have...we have become "involuntary bulimics".I get so hungry sometimes and I crave that piece of chicken or turkey burger...protein...my body craves it when I eat too many carbs...I eat it and depending on the day and how the band decides to accept it......oh no....here it goes the barf and slime, heave and vomit ...then I get hungrier because part of what I ate Has been partially have thrown up.I am always hungry!!!incidentally, chocolate or a piece of cake goes down fine...it's a weird roller coaster.....so yeah you feel as though those mushy weeks are a killer because we are always worried about food...which has been made worse due to the band....you are going to be fine...drink teas and come up with great recipes for liquids and soft foods...then you are going to get that feeling ...that feeling of losing weight....you see your thighs and waist shrinking....oh yeah...you are on your way !!!! you will succeed the worse is over....no more lapband torture.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
