Jellybean67 0 Posted August 24, 2015 I've not had a fill yet, but should I not get one until after my trip?
CTJohn 109 Posted August 24, 2015 Ask doc. I don't think first fill matters with regard to flying. I hardly felt mine. Really depends
JustWatchMe 7,117 Posted August 24, 2015 I flew to Europe 15 days after my first fill/return to solid foods. Plan to hydrate before your flight and during your flight but no food during your flight. Eat before flying and wait a few hours after to eat mushies. I had no problems.
Rizzle01 54 Posted August 24, 2015 I flew right before and after my first couple of fills. To be honest I never even thought of consulting my Doctor. I have to be able to fly for work at any given time. I had zero issues. The hardest part about flying was finding half way descent food at the airports lol. KennethHawkins 3 Posted November 28, 2015 Hi All, I am thinking of having a surgery but I have to fly right after the surgery only, praying that it goes nicely and I don't have to face any kind of issues.
tootyoyo 8 Posted December 15, 2015 I flew about 11 days after surgery and it was fine. I didn't eat it was only five hours. It's to do with the cabin pressure potentially making the band a bit tighter apparently.
Letsgetskinny 24 Posted February 8, 2016 I travel a lot and I eat a good meal before but I don't eat on the flight. My band definitely gets tighter. Ive never wanted to put myself in jeopardy so I take Protein shakes, fruit smoothies, lots of Water and board with a nice starbucks drink to keep me going. I never get off the plane and think I'm hungry. I flew from London to LAX 11 hours with no food I was fine. Most people on here say it doesn't affect them but we are all different, I would never take the chance.
Nurse_Lenora 903 Posted February 8, 2016 How do you deal with Protein Shakes when you fly? I try to never ch do luggage so I take everything carry on. How do you get it through security? Do you just check luggage with a bunch of shakes or powder in it?
Letsgetskinny 24 Posted February 8, 2016 I have taken slim fast powder before in a Blender Bottle then asked the flight attendant for milk, they have pints of milk in the galley The Protein Shakes I buy in the shop once through the security gate in the UK they have much more choice. My friend told me you can get a letter off your DR before you fly advising that you are on a liquid only diet and then you can take liquids like Protein shakes through TSA, I haven't tried that yet. Last time I also took some miso Soup with me it was a paste I put the sachet in the clear bag at TSA it counts as a liquid under 100ml and during tea and coffee asked the flight attendant for a boiled Water that was good:)
lamulatona 17 Posted February 19, 2016 Do you actually feel it inside when it gets tighter ? Is it a uncomfy feeling,?
tootsie_96 0 Posted March 9, 2016 I had my surgery on Feb. 18 and flew on Feb. 29. The surgeon had said it should be safe to fly 7-10 days after. For me, that flight was torture. I could not even sip Water. It was so bad that I cancelled my flight home and won't be flying back until the 17th. I'll get my first fill on the 18th and then have another flight scheduled for the 20th. The surgeon said that I shouldn't have any problems after the fill as long as the nurse filling is careful not to have any air in the needle. He said that people have had issues with flights when there is air in the band which can get there during a fill if the nurse is not careful. I guess I'll know for sure when I fly on the 20th.
