I'm so confused.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'm new here and I have a question.

I just did a revision to Gastric Bypass two weeks ago and now I'm on the puréed diet. The problem I'm having is that, I can not tell if I'm hungry or full. I'm not getting any type of signal. How am I suppose to know when I'm hungry? I asked the dietitian and she said it will come back but right now I just need help finding ways that I can know if I'm hungry or full. It's kind of frustrating because I don't want to over eat or drink more than I'm suppose to and get dumping syndrome or something.

Any advice will be helpful.

Thanks!

Its still sliding right through really. Just stick to the pirtion size they say like 1/2 cup size. When you get to solud foods you will feel it nore. If you had a band before this it is even weirder because restriction will feel different now. You will be fine. Just take it slow. Also you wont be truely hungry for months. Enjoy this time. I know i am.

I will be honest, in the beginning I had to set an alarm and measure my good because I had the same problem.

I followed a very structured plan until I could figure it out.

I would have some warm Water first thing to wake my tummy up.

Then about 30 minutes to an hour later 1/4 yogurt.

About 2 hours later 6 oz. of Protein shake. Then for lunch around 1pm I would have some puréed Soup, or puréed tuna salad. No more than 1/4 cup. Then at 3pm I would have another 4/6 oz. of Protein Shake.

Finally about 6pm or so I would have puréed chicken or fish with a little puréed veggie or applesauce.

There were times if I would feel uncomfortable, or I would hiccup or cough it was a sign that I was getting full. Or even a deep sigh.

I never went beyond 1/4 cup at the puréed stage that way I was sure I would not over do it.

By the way. I would make sure I would get at least 48 ounces of Water.< /p>

I promise you will start to figure it out you just may need to stick to a schedule and measure for now.

Good luck!

Thank you all for the response. I will do a schedule and make sure to measure my puréed and set an alarm. Good to see I'm not the only one who is going through this, it's so weird for me because before I was able to at least feel the food going down but now absolutely NOTHING, no feeling whatever so ever.

Hi...

I found and still do that I don't get hungry, more cravings. But immediately post op, I just stuck to my three small pureed meals and I would say I'd get more of a discomfort feeling more one I'd had enough, almost like I'd have a mouthful and knew that if I swallowed it was going to come right back up.

I also follow a 20 rule:

* 20p (UK) / quarter size (US) size piece of food

* chew 20 times

* Wait 20 seconds before your next piece

* Stop eating after 20 minutes

I never got as far as the 20 minutes, but thought that this was good advice from my dietician.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
