Hi All,

I have my first surgeon appointment on the 9th Sepetember, 2015 - since this appointment has been scheduled, I have found myself binging/going off track. I've been in the mindset that - oh, this wine won't hurt, that extra serve won't make me put on too much etcetc knowing that by the end of the year, I'm planning on having the surgery.

Have you experience this? If so, how did you combat it?

Thanks all in advance for your help.

I did not have to lose weight for surgery. I knew I was going to have a long liquid diet.

I had all the food funerals I wanted. I am really glad that I did, because now when I have a craving, I can say to myself, " you had plenty of that", and remember when I did. It has made things a lot easier post-op. Especially when the time since I had anything to chew on seemed further away

I don't know how people for 6 months of dieting, then a liquid diet, then post-op.

One thing that I know now that I was sure about before surgery is that I can eat, fairly normally (for me I was already a lowcarb/keto person, I just fell off the wagon a lot), just in small portions. I do not feel deprived at all.

Those food funerals were not really needed but I am still really glad I had them, because they helped me get through some dark days.

Well does your insurance have some rules about how much weight you can gain between your appointment and your surgery? I know some do.

You are going to have to watch what you eat after the surgery really closely so doing it now gets you in the right mindset and helps you begin to plan and prepare.

Thanks.

No rules with my insurance hockey fan.

Outsidematchinside - what you've said makes a lot of sense and I can relate to. Thanks for your insight and reply.

I weighed in at 350 pounds at my pre-op appt. The surgeon recommended a liquid diet of 5 Protein Shakes and 1 lean and green meal which was a chicken, tuna, or turkey salad for the full 12 days leading up to my Surgery. To be honest i did cheat on my preop diet. I actually cheated more than once lol but I walked 2 miles everyday and worked out quite a bit. My weight the day of surgery (8/21) was 326 pounds. So even though I cheated i still managed to loose the goal weight for surgery. Im 2 days post op and I feel great.my advice to you is if you do cheat on the preop diet make it up by working out even harder

I have been bad this weekend... Ugh I've been doing so well and this weekend I had a complete calorie meltdown. I think we will still have moments of weakness. Our bodies are getting used to this idea and for me it's still telling me I'm hungry when obviously I'm not.

Oh boy is this tough

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
