Two Weeks From H-E-Double Hockey Sticks

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I have been following everyone's journeys for about three months now. I am 22 years old, and my surgery is scheduled for Sept 3, 2015! I am very excited! =) I have a very supportive boyfriend and wonderful family, so for that I am very blessed. I am currently on the two-week Liver Shrinking Diet (which I call LSD to get a laugh from people). Are any of you currently doing LSD as well? If so, what are all of your trials and triumphs? I have not cheated once so far. The first three days were the worst, even though I'm only on day four..... =P If there are things you are doing to keep your mind off of bad foods or ways that keep you inspired to continue, please share them! Any words of advice are welcome as well! Thank you. I look forward to chatting with you guys!

Walk for 30 minutes each day. This will help with the recovery process.

If you are drinking caffeinated drinks discontinue this now. I had a 6 Coke a day habit prior to surgery. I went cold turkey and suffered withdrawal syndrome (severe headaches and body aches) for a week. It is good to not compound the recovery process after surgery with this withdrawal syndrome.

Swanson's Mexican Tortilla Soup broth SAVED me on my pre-op diet. It was SO good!

@@kmc0812 Congrats on your surgery! I am one day before you, 09/02! I have been on LSD (too funny!) since 8/05 and will continue to be on it until I get closer to surgery. I decided to start earlier, with the approval of my surgeon and dietician, to be proactive with pre-op weight loss on top of liver shrinkage and have lost nearly 19 lbs. I haven't cheated, aside from licking Peanut Butter off of my finger after making my kids a sandwich, if that even counts! LOL

The first few days of this diet were the worst for me. I had a mild headache and was really crabby and really just hated life. Now, it is really a piece of cake. Anytime I got a craving for a bad food, I would just reach for an approved vegetable off of my list. Cucumbers w/ balsamic vinegar have been lifesavers as well as Water with sugar free strawberry lemonade flavoring (I got at Target - Market Pantry brand, but there are so many options everywhere!)

And like someone else said, walking..just keep walking! I wish you the best of luck :)

@@gonnadothis We share the same surgery date, congrats! :)

You are all awesome! Thank you! I've definitely experienced the head ache and hating life. Hahaha my poor boyfriend is a saint. I've been more emotional the lady five days than I have been the last two years. Have you experienced this at all? The Mexican Tortilla Soup broth sounds sloppily good! I'll have to try it! =) Walker is my middle name! Hahaha I walk at least half an hour a day, so I'm glad to hear it helps. Thank you all for your support! I can't wait to share all of our journeys! =)

*last five days. Hahaha oops.

@@kmc0812 Umm I've been an emotional rollercoaster since I got a surgery date! LOL

The one downside to being on this diet is that I have no energy. I can do my daily walks, and chores, but once all is said and done I am POOPED. I find myself falling asleep at the most random times of day. This makes me cry, because I feel so tired all the time.

Then there's all of the fears & worries I have of surgery. I know the rewards far outweigh the risks, but the sheer realization alone that this life changing thing is going to happen to me is scary and exciting all at the same time and this makes me cry.

Then there's worries about post-surgery problems, physically and emotionally and mentally. This makes me cry.

Then there's worries about relationships with people changing after surgery, this makes me cry.

Then there's commercials on TV that I normally wouldn't cry at, but now I'm crying.

I think I'm just hungry. LOL

But seriously, what you're going through is normal I think. I'm still pretty new at this myself but have read so many posts on here that make me feel so much better. Everyone on here is supportive and informative and welcoming. It has made this journey for me so much easier knowing that I am not alone, and even after all is said and done, I can still come back here for help & support.

Keep your head up! You're stronger than you think! xo

Thank goodness, because I was so worried that I was suffering from some sort of pre-surgical anxiety induced depression, even though I've never been depressed. Lol

I just started my pre op diet today! So far for me I just have to stay out of the kitchen area. food is all I an think about!! My surgery date is September 1st!!

Awesome! I know that feeling. I purposely put chocolates in front of me while I was watching tv. I know this is weird, but I would see a commercial with a fit lady and then look at the chocolates. I kept telling myself "Chocolates or that body. Those are your options." It definitely tested my willpower out!

Congratulations! Can't wait to share this journey with you!

I'm pre-op too. I don't have a date yet but wanted to be pro-active. I have fought so long and hard for this surgery that I'm training my mind and body to change forever. Whenever I look at food I want and my stomach starts acting up, I just think about my journey so far. I'm doing the pre-op diet to prove what I know about myself, and because I'm standing in faith. I'll be getting my surgery date any day now.

I've also been getting more active, working up to walking till I'm walking at least a couple thousand steps. Because of my knees, I have to walk a few minutes at a time and work up to 30 minutes. I'm waiting for my Fitbit to come in the mail. I'm so excited for all of us!

Nikikins- so glad to read your post! Had a full day pre-op appointment (surgery September 23) and I've been vacillating between tears and anxiety. Same worries you have. Glad to know I'm not as certifiable as I thought! It's so odd as this is something I really want and am eager for but going through some questioning of my sanity. My shrink has his work cut out for him!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
