Need to drop 30lbs for surgeon

Recommended Posts

can a doctor deny you getting the surgery if you do not meet his pre surgery weight loss goal for you? does anyone know? My wife is trying to lose weight before hand, he wanted her to do 60lbs, but it's been tough and she has only lost a few pounds, and she just went to her 6th month appointment and was told they wanted her to try and lose as much weight as she can and come back in 30 days again. 9/25 she has another appointment. She is worried they may deny her surgery even though her insurance approved it with all the pre-surgery stuff she had to do. has anyone ever heard of a doctor denying a patient surgery because they couldnt lose enough pre-surgery weight???

how is kaiser?? I go to the info session next week. Im also so cal kaiser.. Out of moreno valley but the meetings are in corona..

they give you everything you need to know and the classes are helpful so long as you really pay attention. its tedious but it works, just don't gain ANY weight while you are taking the class's that's the only real advice i can give you on that and make sure you get EVERYTHING done the way they tell you to and keep your binder in order so you are on top of everything. I have supposedly 18 lbs to go before i am given the green light by the surgeon but hes not really giving me any indication that he "feels" like i can have a surgery date, even though i am losing like 3lbs a week roughly and proving my dedication. it means nothing and people who are at an unhealthier level are getting to get their surgeries. its frustrating so DONT gain any weight in the classes lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
