Calories post op!

Recommended Posts

So I'm about 4/5 weeks post op RNY and I'm finding I eat 5/6 times a day and sometimes worry it's too much. Im sticking right around 600 calories and 60g Protein a day. Is this normal?

I'm two months and if I'm not careful I can easily get in 1200 a day. I try to stick to under 1000 usually somewhere in the 900s

I will be four weeks out on Wednesday and the I get to move to soft foods. Right now, I average 500 calories a day. I am not allowed to snack whatsoever and limited to my three meals. When I do go on soft foods, I will be capped at 800 calories a day.

Calorie-wide you are fine. Does that 5 or 6 meals include Protein Shakes? If so, you should be fine. If not, you might be grazing. Send your food logs to your NUT to have them review. My NUT said not to worry about calories but just focus on Protein. That's tough to do when you are tracking on a calorie counting site tho! I got up to 800 calories today for the first time in 12 weeks and it (unnecessarily) made me nervous.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
