Is coffee okay? I'm on the regular diet 6 weeks postop. I haven't wanted any for the last 6 months until today-crazy!

I was told no caffeine (ever) and I have stayed off of it for quite a while. However I just started drinking 1 cup of coffee in the morning because it just makes me feel better! The reason they give for not drinking coffee or anything caffinated is because it may cause ulcers. I've read that other people still have their coffee, even one of the nurses at the Dr's office admitted she has her coffee each morning with her Vitamins, so I guess it just depends on the person and to make sure you don't overdue.

coffee and I are like this.....and I'm perfectly healthy and alive! In fact I'm having some roasted hazel nut right now...just don't load it down with junk! I use heavy whipping cream as Creamer Because it has 0 carbs and a Splenda pack.

Had my one coffee/milk/protein shake mixture this morning. Tolerated it fine.

I don't know why drs say do not have coffee it can give you ulcers! I had ulcers before, it is a bacteria and it i treated with antibiotic...maybe it irritates the sore stomach!

I'll have my cappucino in the morning.

If you doc says it's OK, give it a try.

I had no post-op restriction on coffee after 6 weeks, but I had to pinkie shake with the doc that I wouldn't go back to old habits - like 6 cups a day. At first, I didn't enjoy coffee - it didn't sit well on my tummy and drinking it was just not as enjoyable as before surgery.

I'm nearing the two year mark and I totally enjoy my morning cup of joe. I have 2-4 cups a day and have no issues.

I have 2-3 cups everyday! No issues. I started drinking coffee at 4 weeks out.

I am a no coffee girl. It can be dehydrating early on and since I broke the habit I am just going to keep it that way.

Good luck!

Could you try Decaf? I know it's not the same, but it is the flavor you are craving, it might help. I actually used an individual serving of decaf coffee in my Protein shake early on. It tasted SO good! I am not a big coffee drinker myself and pre-op it often made me a little sick to my stomach sometimes, so no cravings really. Just wanted something different.

There is also a coffee Protein powder called Chike (I think?). I haven't tried it but Shelly raves about it on theworldaccordingtoeggface.com. Might be worth trying if you can find a sample. I know that doesn't help you with your craving today....

I'm using Trader Joe's Iced coffee, mix with yogurt (vanilla) and Stevia with vanilla (at Whole Foods) and ice. No frap will stand up to it. 1/3 a scoop of Protein powder and I have:

Flavor

15g Protein

70 calories

Caffeine buzz for workout

Try to beat that one Starbucks

My surgeon okayed coffee right away, no more than 2 cups caffeinated. I asked him directly about ulcers and he said it does not cause ulcers. He warned about using it in place of food and making it sugary and high calorie. Since week 6 I've used 2 packets of Organo Gold Black in a vanilla Premier Protein shake and a serving of hazelnut or caramel agave over ice. It's my must have because I enjoy it so much every day drink. Sometimes I'll get a Decaf Americano with SF mocha and SF hazelnut at Starbucks and add plain Isopure powder and half and half to it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
