Even through the trouble I have had keeping the weight off the last two years I have absolutely NO regrets. My band helped me to loose 80 lbs initially and is the reason I was able to get pregnant and have a healthy son. I have no doubt that now that I am at the right place to continue my weight loss journey that my band will be the tool to help me get there.

That's not luck. I bet you are following the rules...small bites, chew well, eat slow. I'm sure at some point, you'll get stuck...everyone does. But you may not have that happen regularly because you are doing what you are supposed to.

I'm so happy to see happy banders! I banded almost a month ago. So far I don't have regrets but I don't feel like I have been banded long enough to know for sure. I can say that I honestly believe it was the right choice for me. Being strongly rooted in that knowledge has helped me not be persuaded by the band negativity I have seen so much of.

welcome,

I think this is a great site for questions and info and others experience with the band.

There appear to be some naysayers around on some of the sites. but please be assured there are happy and healthy banders around.

Hoping for a great fresh start for you .

I had my lap band done in July of this year. I hate it. I lost 13 pounds the first two weeks and that's it. Not one more pound. I haven't gained any, but no more lost. I'm hungry all the time. This has definately not been the miracle everyone claimed it would be.

When I went in for my last "fill" the injection site was way down in my left lower abdomen, yet my port is upper left quad?? I can tell there was no change in the band. Yet when I called and tried to find out what the deal was I got the run around and still have no answers. I even called the surgeon who did my surgery and they gave me the run around.

This has been a total nightmare and a very expensive, huge let down.

It's only been 3 months. Have you been back for a fill?

Decai Rhodes, Im sorry you're having issues with your weight loss, Im not sure why you got the "runaround" from your Dr, etc, or how much research you did before being banded. I do know that not everybody loses weight right away, especially if you're not anywhere near the green zone. If you're hungry alot and can eat a fair amount, you're not at the green zone. Yet. It takes some people several fills, some only 1 to hit that sweet spot. ( mine was #4 ) You'll know it when you get there. I think it was one of the people in this forum ( B-52 ? ) who said he had almost given up, and thought it was a complete waste of time, money and effort. But he stuck with the rules, and finally , started losing ! I think youre giving up waaaay too soon ! Trust the process. Stay on this forum and you'll get LOTS of advice and support ! Good luck, and dont give up !!!!

You'll only hear regrets from those who developed complications or had no weight-loss result with the band. (The band doesn't seem to work on a small percentage of people, but this can't be predicted beforehand, unfortunately.) It's the same with every weight loss surgery; not just the lapband. For obvious reasons, you'll never have a "yes, I regret that I did this" response to your question from a successful bandster!

I loved my band for one year. I had good success and my band delivered on its promises: diminished appetite and better-than-doing-this-with-a-diet weight loss. And then I developed complications. Quality-of-life affecting complications. My band sits (or migrated) on my vagus nerve and the pressure of the band provoked arrythmia, in the form of Afib which is now part of my heart's electrics (so removing the band would not solve the issue).

So my response is two-fold: I had zero regrets for the first year, and thought that I had FINALLY found a liveable, easy-to-sustain solution to my weight problem. But now I have enormous regrets, in that my life is completely changed and I wish I had never chosen the lapband.

When people ask me if they should do WLS, I always respond: Envision all the complications that can ensue, and ask yourself if you can live with any of them should you fall on the wrong side of the statistics.

Wow Gowalking you look amazing!! I am so impatient!! I hope I get there as well and my band does me justice. Ive always been a yoyo dieter, loosing 20 pounds and putting on 40. The band is my only hope I need to loose 44 pounds but would love to loose 50

Yes BandedDiva I've now had my third fill this past Friday. I can definately tell a difference and my hunger has slowed down substantially! I haven't lost faith yet pink dahlia and yes, I am staying on this forum... thank you all for the encouragement. I'm staying on the path, it's just been a bit depressing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
