Has anyone tried increasing their calories to end a stall. For those of us who have been on diet after diet, trying to eat more calories seems wrong. All the research i have done says that women should not eat less then 1200 calories. For the first 3 weeks i was at 600 calories, now i am trying to increase my calories to 800. I made it yesterday but it was not easy. I do feel better with the additional calories but it is too early to see if it breaks me out of my 3 week stall. Anyone see success?

THE 3 WEEK STALL SEEMS TO JUST BE SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS BUT YES IF YOU INCREASE YOUR CALORIES SOME IT SHOULD HELP. YOUR BODY GETS USE TO ONLY HAVING 600 CALORIES SO IT STARTS TO TRY AND STORE THEM. IF YOU GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE IT SHOULD START BURNING THEM AGAIN AND YOU SHOULD START LOSING AGAIN.

I changed up my diet and it seemed to work. Also, changing up any exercise your doing may help as well. I did wonder at the time if it was just a coincidence that I didn't lose anything for a couple of weeks, then I would drop 3-5 pounds very quickly. At least I felt like I was doing something to try to move things along.

If I go over 1,000 calories or 40 carbs, the weight starts packing back on. I could easily gain back five pounds in a week, if I enjoy some carbs or salt. Maintenance is a mind-freak of its own. Adding calories may work for someone whose activity level can increase as they lose weight, but I have orthopedic limitations that keep me fairly sedentary.

So, I would agee that if you increase your calories, make them Protein calories and not carbs, and be prepared to be more active.

Most often when I met a stall especially post 3 months by increasing my calorie intake I would lose more weight. Even now that I have met my goal and don't want to lose anymore so I have increased my calories and still continue to lose,

I know it must seem counterintuitive but the less you eat, the more your body says " we're starving" and shuts off the weight loss by holding on to fat. If you eat good Protein based calories ( eggs, lean meat, fish ) and good fats , it should get your fat burning furnace turned on again. Also, drink your Water. If you can, adding exercise will also increase metabolism.

I've had a couple of stalls since surgery, but I kept eating good wholesome protein and some fats like almond butter and after a few days I would have a big loss of 2-3,lbs. good luck and keep going!

When I stalled (several times in 14 months) it helped me to increase calories one day above my usual around 800 calories to 900 or so calories and then down to about 700 or less calories the next day. I did that for a few days, and it worked for me. I think it "tricks" my body in to "thinking" I'm not stuck/starving at 800 calories, and I start losing again. I am less than 15 pounds from my goal weight, and it is really hard to lose these last pounds!

That's exactly what I do to end a stall...eat some more but mostly Protein in small amounts of the course of the day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
