I am 66 and had my RYGB on June 4. Am doing well. Slowly adding new foods. Have to remember to chew well and eat small bites. If I do this I can handle eating. Grammyrusty 21 Posted July 6, 2018 Hi I am 62 and had my bypass on 5/8/18. I feel tired more at 7-8 weeks out than I did the first week. I think its because our bodies are healing and adjusting to our new lifestyles. I have lost 38 pounds but I had hit a plateau at 3 weeks and 15 pounds that lasted almost 3 weeks. Then the weight dropped off again faster. So its just our body telling us it’s not sure what the heck is going on. Hang in there rest when you feel super tired and keep following the doctors orders. I belong to a group of over 50’s bariactric patients on Facebook. Check it out. Yo will see your not alone.Good luck!

FinallyBackToMe 2 Posted July 8, 2018 Hi Cosbourne, From what I've researched so far, 15 lbs nice June 19 isn't too bad, especially if you aren't getting the Protein needed. Protein, water/liquids, and carbs in the right balance is the key - again, from my research. I hope you are keeping in close contact with your doc so you don't get dehydrated! I've also seen patients say they can't drink the shakes. One person I follow on you tube, mimmiemeinTN, drinks her shake in the am with a cup of cold brew coffee, and a couple of pumps of sugar free flavorings. But there are so many alternatives to shakes to get protein, like nectar, Unjury Soup, and my personal favorite Protein2o drinks. I'm also thinking you don't have energy because you may not be getting enough carbs? Anyway, I hope you feel better really soon. Keep us posted, ok? 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

Hey Finally, I think we are pretty close stats wise - have you been approved yet? I am so nervous that I won't be approved by anthem. I have a BMi of 37 and only 1 official comorbidity - but I have lots of almost issues. I want so badly to get this help to get back to me - (stole your tag!) I just turned 52 in April. Keep me posted on your progress! I would love to compare notes with someone similar!
dutchamy 18 Posted July 9, 2018 The waiting is the Hardest part.....I suppose until the next step. anyone have Anthem BCBS of CT? I am a school teacher. I am at 37 BMI and I have sleep apnea and am prediabetic. I had acl surgery last year and walking is painful- my classroom is on the third floor and by the time I get up there I sound like I'm going to die breathing like I ran a marathon. I so want this surgery to help me get back in shape and able to be active but I am so nervous I will be denied! Anyone have similar stats and get approved by Anthem? 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

I am 56 and have lost 46 lbs post surgery and 34 lbs before surgery. food is still not easy but this was my only choice as I had Barrett’s esophagus, diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney disease. I am off most meds but the diabetes is not resolved so I still take oral meds for that. I am hoping to get off all my meds someday. I am thankful that my kidney GFR is now at 63 and holding at that number. When diagnosed my GFR was 28 and my kidney doctor said I was going to have to go on dialysis within a few years. All is going well except not tolerating a lot of food that I should be allowed to eat. Wow - Kevin you have done great! You reached your goal so soon! Congrats. The support group I attend has people that have taken several months to be able to tolerate much food. Maybe time will improve that for you. Keep up the good fight! 1 1 ScoutCR and Frustr8 reacted to this
chattycat 91 Posted July 9, 2018 I’m 61, just had RNY July 5/18. Been really sore, like someone kicked me in the stomach but getting better every day. I already hate the Protein Shakes cause they are so sweet along with Protein Water, sugar free popsicles, SF Jello too much sweet. Need to mix things up a bit. Had some strained thin Low fat cream of mushroom Soup last night and it finally felt like I had some real food! 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
Apple203 1,314 Posted July 9, 2018 Thought I'd check in. I had surgery on 3/14 and I am still losing in bumps and starts. :-) It feels like a strict diet with inability to bing on stuff like 2 slices of pizza (never gonna happen with a sleeve, TG). So the secret formula for ME is to avoid grazing at all costs -- 4 meals a day with Protein, veges and fruit, and bread rarely. Good luck to all with scheduled surgeries!! 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

Fish495 2 Posted July 10, 2018 (edited) Hello all, This is my first post on the site. I am a 56 year old female with severe GERD, sleep apnea and bad joint pain. I see the surgeon on the 18th. I am tired of losing weight and seeing it come back on. I am also scared to death to have the bypass as I fear complications. I also afraid since I always feel hungry I will gain or not lose weight. Hoping I can get some fears resolved. Edited July 10, 2018 by Fish495

Hello 50 something bypass patients, Update: Yesterday I had my follow up with my kidney, family, and pulmonary DR's. and I am happy to report that my kidney's are now at 87 GFR and my DR said that he considers me out of kidney disease range and it would be my choice to have a 1 yr follow up (which I did schedule), my primary care DR said he now considers my diabetes in remission (5.2 A1C), my high blood pressure is now normal ( BP 116/66), my pulmonary DR gave me the option to stop wearing my CPAP based on my last month of data which shows a low incidence of sleep apnea. I did say that I would continue to wear it as my bariatric surgeon suggested 6 months to stop the CPAP. The DR agreed with the 6 months and said we would do a home sleep study at the end of the 6 months just to cover the insurance requirements. All of this good news is giving me a wonderful day today! I cannot express how much relief I feel from the benefits of this surgery. I am not saying that everything is perfect but the health benefits make it all worthwhile. I am still presently in a weight stall, but I will be happy if I stay at my present weight. On Friday 7/13/18 I will be 11 weeks post op. Thank you! to everyone who commented on my previous posts and staying connected. This site has also been a blessing as I do not have any support groups close by to where I live and seeing what everyone has in common and what is working and not working for others has helped me greatly. I have attached a photo of my visit to the Harley Davidson museum in Milwaukee 3 weeks ago. This was during my first business trip post OP. 1 dutchamy reacted to this
Fish495 2 Posted July 11, 2018 @Kevin M, wow sounds like you have made some great improvements. Sounds to me soon you will be off the diabetic mess too. Yes I think food will always be an issue with me but hoping the classes will help me with that. You look great on your bike. Hope you are enjoying your rides!
