Margo H 17 Posted March 8, 2018 (edited) I replied weeks ago. I had gastric-roux-en-y 20+ years ago (yes, I was a pioneer)! If you have problems with diarrhea, take Iron tablets - that should "tighten" you up. That is what I had to do (doctor recommended). Also good for the "seepage" of stool - as it keeps it more firm. I am almost 6' tall. My top weight was 355. I lost down to 182 - now at 195. It is possible to keep it off - but you DO have to change your eating habits! Also, my biggest problem now is gas - because I do eat candy occasionally. I cannot eat, for instance, a piece of cake or pie, because I STiLL get the "dumping syndrome"; but I can take one bite and that satisfies me, but does give me gas, as does a small piece of candy. Good luck everyone! Edited March 8, 2018 by Margo H 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
Teri dolan 7 Posted March 8, 2018 I am 72 and am 2 mo out of bypass. I’ve gone from 275 to 230 I guess I feel that it’s not enough. I still am out of breath a lot and tired. Anyone else? 1 1 Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 and FluffyChix reacted to this
frust8 963 Posted March 9, 2018 We have a new poster,on the over 60 thread who is 73, you and I are next at 72. I hope to join you in bypassville in a,month or so. I thought I had finished my preps In January, was waiting on a surgery date, February 20th I got a call from the surgeon's office. The 3 surgeons in the bariatric center had themselves a little meeting, decided unanimously not to perform my surgery. I had dealt with this group of people since August 2015 and I got, kicked to the curb! Why? It is so silly an excuse even after 3 weeks it still doesn't make sense. And am I upset? Yep, one third extremely hurt and one third bewildered and the other third? Pissed as. **** at the sons of Seabiscuit the Horse they turned out to be! I did not see this coming, had I suspected anything I would have severed ties before they could pull such a dirty trick. So I have applied to another program at Ohio State University and I hope it will,be just what I need to gain my surgery, the next step on my journey to weight loss and better health. Wish me well as I really really want,to it to be done and over. Things can get wearying at our stage of life.Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
Margo H 17 Posted March 9, 2018 When I had my surgery years ago the doctor's would not do it on anyone over the age of 50. I would think in later years it could be extremely risky, as our health declines anyways after about 60 or so. I am now about to be 69. M. Hall
Brotherorc 13 Posted March 9, 2018 It went really well I am back home and just a little sore. It’s night was tough but got through it. Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 1,004 Posted March 17, 2018 I am 56. Had a gastric band done at about 46 I guess. It worked a treat, held myself at 175lbs effortlessly. Then a health need to empty it and it broke on the refill. Port replaced - but I just never again hit the sweet spot, as the weight gradually accumulated. RNY late last year when I was up to 230lbs, and it has been a charm. In 3 months, down to 184 and losing 1-2 a week. Little ‘hunger’ and not a lot of interest in eating either. Am loving salads for the first time in my life. Lettuce seems to me a gift from the gods. Anonymous pics - the top one is as at 230lbs. The bottom one - this morning. 4 1 Biddy zz 🏳️🌈, dillydog, ProudGrammy and 2 others reacted to this
Gingerrose 9 Posted March 17, 2018 Hi I had my RNY surgery in September and I’m very happy I did it. I’m no longer obese and no longer on diabetes and high blood pressure meds. I’ve lost nearly 80 pounds since Pre -op diet and feel much better about myself. Hope you all are doing well. 4 Biddy zz 🏳️🌈, dillydog, Rainbow_Warrior and 1 other reacted to this
