Do you weigh yourself everyday? Bad/good?

Recommended Posts

I weigh every morning like others said. As one mentioned, expect the fluctuations. When the scale fluctuates up a pound or 2, it motivates me to make sure I have a perfect diet day as I call it. When the scales reads that I've lost a pound of course that's exciting. So for me, keeps me focused by weighing daily.

I do weigh myself daily, but only record my weight once a week. I fluctuate almost daily, so don't panic about two pound gain.

I weigh daily...... always have and always will. One of my neighbors had the same surgery and she doesn't weigh herself, has no idea how much she has lost, I can't imagine! I can tell you down to the 1/10 of an pound how much I weigh every day!

I'm almost 9 weeks out and (luckily) I haven't had any gain or stall..... I've weighed the same amount exactly 2 days in a row, but never had anything stall longer than that. I'm lucky

Every day. I think fluctuations are normal, so they don't bother me. I only record my weight once a month on Sparkpeople, and the trend each month is downward... which is what I want!

I like to weigh myself every day. It motivates me. Also when I weighed less frequently I did more justifying "I can eat this because I have 5 more days to eat right before I weigh in".. I don't think there is a right answer though.

If getting on the scale every day has the ability to ruin your whole day and cause you to obsess about just the numbers: Bad

If you can get on the scale every day and understand that fluctuations and stalls are a normal part of the whole process: Good

^^^^THIS^^^^

I weight maybe once a month. I focus on eating well, drinking Water and regular exercise.

I have also discovered if you are using a digital scale, it depends on how you stand on the scale. Get your scale and stand with your toes as close to the top edge and note the weight. Let it clear then stand on it with your heels as far to the back as possible. Let it clear and then stand with your weight slightly shifted to one side and then another. You will see the scale weighs differently. So not only should you weigh in the same clothes each time, you should stand on the scale in the same way each time.

I don’t get on the scale much when things are going well – when I know I’m maintaining my weight, I’m working out, my clothes fit, and I’m eating well. When things aren’t going as well, and I can tell the pounds are creeping back on, I’ll get more serious and weigh in every few days to hold myself more accountable.

I think the most common advice is to have an “official” weigh-in day once a week. You can weigh yourself on the days in between the weigh-in day, but only if you don’t take these measurements too seriously.

As to whether weighing yourself every day is bad or good: it’s only bad if you let it be bad. There’s no question that some days (and maybe multiple days in a row) the scale will not go down, and it may go up. If you let that get you down, then you’re setting yourself up for being discouraged and maybe for giving up on your hard efforts.

But you can let weighing yourself every day be a good thing if you use it for information about your body, like how it reacts after a high salt day. I have a friend who weighs herself more than once a day because she likes to know what her body is doing. For example, she’ll weigh herself before and after working out so she knows how much she sweated so she can be sure to replace the lost liquids by drinking enough fluids.

Every day for me. Right now while I'm trying different foods post op it helps me know that if the scale went up 2 lbs I probably shouldn't eat that food I tried yesterday. Plus I'm trying to find the right calorie range that will keep me losing but not be too low.

I can't kick this habit. I just need to know what kinds of activities affect the readings so that I can judge what I've done during the day and calculate an accurate picture of total progress based on all those factors. For example, if I've lost an extra two pounds because I went for an unusually long workout, I adjust that up to reflect that the total weight loss probably isn't more than about a half pound.

@@wagyu I have a bad habit of weighing daily. My husband has accused me in the past of being obsessed with the scale. Lol. I want to let you know that weight can fluctuate up to 10 pounds in one day based on Water retention, sodium rich foods, and stool which we all have very long intestines. Once a week is probably optimal, but I don't do that. I weigh daily because it keeps me on track better. The most accurate time of day for me is in the morning , a few hours after I get up and after a BM. I find my weight is more accurate. The rest of the day, I don't really pay attention because I know so many things affect weight retention.

Hi,

A 2 lb weight gain in one day's time is most likely Water retention. If you review your food intake for the past two days, you'll probably see some high salt foods that were eaten. Remember that 3500 calories are needed to gain one lb so not likely you consumed 7000 calories!! One quart of Water weighs about 2 lbs. Weighing every day can be stressful because there are going to be fluctuation, i.e., water retention, Constipation, etc.. Consider weighing less often and focus on the exercise and healthy, lower salt choices recommended from the program. Good luck!

An old WW habit. Once a week, fluctuations daily would drive me bonkers! I also count only the whole #. If it says 173.9, it is 173.

I weigh just about every day but only record on Mondays. It keeps me in check. Like another poster said ...if I didn't weight daily it gets easier to not weigh weekly and then .... Well then it gets bad.... This is really my own situation though. Essentially, as long as you can mentally work through the fluctuations that occur through out the week then this could be an option. Otherwise, probably once a week is sufficient.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
