kanaud 70 Posted August 20, 2015 Hi everyone. Surgery is scheduled for September 16 and we have a family vacation that's been planned for a long time starting October 8. In terms of pain and healing, I should be good to go by then, right? I know its going to be a rough time for me with transitioning to mushy from liquids only around that time. peaceout 273 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Hi there! Everyone heals differently, but I'll give you my two cents. if you're 3+ weeks post-op, I'd think you'd be ok for your trip. You may not have a ton of energy (it took me 3-4 weeks before I could make it through the day without needing a nap!), but you should be in the clear pain-wise unless you have major complications. Good luck to you! I hope that you are able to recover quickly and enjoy your vacation! ETA: I guess it also depends on the nature of your vacation. Relaxing on a beach somewhere would be much different than trying to explore a whole new big city on foot. Edited August 20, 2015 by WingFan55
kanaud 70 Posted August 20, 2015 ???? thanks for the reply!! It's definitely a low key trip, nothing major planned activity wise, but keeping up with my 2 and 4 year old on the trip is another story!
IncredibleShrinkingMan 437 Posted August 20, 2015 3 weeks is fine. I am 2 weeks today and I feel like I am ready. I am traveling for work next week just before I turn 3 weeks out, and I am curious to see how the metal detector will react to my staples though. I hope I don't have to have special pat-downs for life! I would say that if you didn't have motion sickness before surgery, you are in the clear. If you did, I think you are fine, but I would be on extra alert and have some bags handy. For one, I am not experimenting with any new soft food before I get on the plane. I am boarding with as close to an empty sleeve as possible and I doubt I'll even be hungry when we land. Have a nice time! 1 sargregea reacted to this
marypups 111 Posted August 20, 2015 I left on a two week vacation at three weeks post op. It was challenging finding the food I needed (we were in another country) and I did make my husband carry my suitcase up stairs. But other than that, it went fine. We did all sorts of exercise and tours (kayaking, walking, etc.) and it was totally great.
