I just scheduled my 5hr(she says it'll be over in 3.5 hrs tops) life after surgery class for next month. So, next month I have my class, at the end of the month I'll have my final NUT appt and then I'm on to submit! Everything else is done! I can't believe how close it is getting!

You are so lucky! My last nutrition appointment is in October and the time cannot go fast enough. Good luck with everything!

Thanks! I think the moment we actually submit I might be ready for a panic attack, but so far I'm just excited! :) I went through my daughter's closet last night and tagged everything I want to "borrow" when I get down to her size! ???? I've been buying her outfits I wish would fit me for over a year now so it's all going to pay off! Hahaha

That's too funny! If I had a daughter, I would probably do the same thing!

I actually just bought myself my first XL t-shirt as a goal shirt. I'm sure I won't be in it for long, but I didn't want to start too low and get disappointed if I couldn't fit into it right away.

I just had my final pre-op surgeon visit today and my last Dietician appt yesterday so I'm all ready to go! I'm going back and forth a lot but I know it's just surgery jitters!

Hi all! I had my first surgeon visit today and while his assistant recommended the sleeve for me, she said it was my choice. The surgeon came in and asked what I had decided and told him GB and he said ok. He said he will be writing the letter to my insurance company today; however, the insurance coordinator said she cannot submit until next month because if so many visits they require to be done. I don't quite understand if my insurance doesn't have a waiting time of non surgical weight loss as long as all documentation is there. I have attended first seminar, met with the MD once, had my Psych Eval, met with the surgeon so far. Next week I see the NUT for the first time as well as the MD and then the MD again next month. October I have to wait and see the exercise specialist 10/22. They are saying probably the end of Octoberish for surgery but will submit for approval sometime in September. I don't understand why the wait?

Oh and then once insurance approves it, I have to go for a 4 hour class as well. My program thru my surgeon is Healthy For Life and I get lifetime nutrition visits and lifetime exercise specialist.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
