Period after surgery- IUD ladies

Recommended Posts

I'm sure that this has been asked before, and I apologize if it has.

This is for the ladies that have an IUD and didn't have periods prior to your surgery thanks to our little friend. I had my IUD placed in 2011 and lived 4+ years virtually period free. Honestly the best time of my life, lol. In July I began my 2 week post-op diet and come day of surgery started spotting, but only for a day. Yesterday I spotted again. Did anyone notice that following their surgery that their period returned or perhaps spotted monthly? Did it stay or did it stop altogether like prior to surgery? I'm really hoping that this is only temporary and that it goes away. I have really enjoyed the period free lifestyle.

Thanks.

YES! I'm on my third Mirena IUD , it was placed n November 2014.My RNY was 4/2015. I had been period free (or had some *light* spotting here and there). Just like you, on surgery day I spotted, more than usual though and it was brown- not red. The month following I had an actual full blown period. I'm now nearly 4 months post op and see that its getting less and less-- so hopefully they will disappear once again!

I've had the Mirena for a little over 8 years and had 2-3 very light periods a year with it. However, since RNY (and after what I guess was an adjustment time) I have them now regularly every 3 weeks or so, and they're not light by any means. (1 week on, 2 weeks off for the most part) Kind of annoying, but no doctor seems concerned about it.

OMG Yes. I had mine placed in 2011, and never really had once since then. Since surgery, I have had one and its horrible. You get all the regular symptoms of cramping and bleeding and I was like well hello friend you have returned

I have had my Mirena (2 of them) since 2009 and haven't had a period after the first month, until now... I am 3 months post op and last month, I had one day of light "spotting" and this month, same deal. I have, however, had the cramps, back pain, bloating etc, before and after the spotting. Just saw my doctor last Friday and was told this was normal after surgery and that most ladies return to "normal" after their bodies/hormones readjust.

I will also be seeing my OB/GYN next month and will definitely be bringing this up to her as well. I LOVED being period-free and I hope it returns to that state. I do not enjoy the cramps, back pain or bloating :(

Yep... Full blown periods have been back for me as well! That was a side effect of surgery I had not considered and do not enjoy.

Is there any research or anything on this. Is it due to hormones? Estrogen is apparently stored in fat and gets released as we lose weight. I'm on the depo shot and ever since I started drinking Protein shakes as Meal Replacements I am getting spotting. I've only lost 3 lbs though. So I'm not sure. Maybe its stress? This surgery stuff is super stressing me out. :-/

I have the Mirena IUD and just started spotting this month. Haven't had a period in 10 years from PCOS.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
