I have been waiting for about a month to get my approval. My surgeons office told me today it's going to take another two weeks to schedule my next appointment/pre-op diet/ surgery date. I was flooded with emotions when she told me I was approved. I'm nervous, scared, excited, grateful. Most of my family and friend are against this surgery. Thankfully my mom is supportive. Having four kids I think everyone is scared I'm going to die. It does cross my mind. But I want to be healthy for them. I want this hunger and tiredness this sluggish feeling to go away. I wish I could do this alone. I wish I could make them happy and not need this surgery. But I've done all I can do. I really think this is the best option. Keep my in your thought and any response is appreciated. Although I haven't asked any questions. I have no where else to vent without judgement.

@@mandyn85 - vent here!!!! There is usually someone here to read and reply, just make sure you do like you did - admit you just need to vent (rant, etc) so we know that you aren't a TROLL!

I get it. If I could have done this without surgery I would have. I just wasn't winning the battle and 300 was visible on the scale (HW282).

Do what YOU have to do for YOU (and your four children). My only regret is not doing it sooner.

Don't have guilt for the method you're choosing to get healthy! Be proud of yourself for getting healthy and breaking the cycles that WERE bringing you down. I never regretted my surgery, I'm 5 months post op and never looked back. I have so much more energy for my kids, I feel stronger, and I haven't had this confidence ever in my life! I started @ 238 and I'm currently 185. I love my new life and I'm for the first time in a very long time loving myself which has improved everything else. You deserve this, this is your journey and no one else's. Best of luck and try and enjoy the process. When You look back you'll be surprised how fast things get better!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
