Weight Loss BEFORE the Band

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I am new to this site and and in the process of getting the band.

I actually went to the doc a year ago for a referral. Got it and at that time my insurance would not cover the surgery.

So, I began a weight loss program on my own.

I did drop exactly 30 pounds over a year. Not alot of weight for such a long time. But now I have begun to gain. 5 pounds now. No change to program either.

ANYWAY ..... I went back to the doc 2 days ago. (Monday). She tells me now that I have to be on a doctor supervised weight loss deal for 6 months then she will do the referral. She stated because I have diabetes, developed with my twins pregnancy and it did not go away after.... that she would do it at 3 months.

Ok.... I have been on this thing for 1 year to the day ... maintained meal charts and activities daily. Now, I have to continue.

My biggest question is ..... I am back to this program full force .... what if I drop some of the weight and I no longer hit the required weight to get the surgery???? :faint:

What do you guys do when you have to be on this "doctor's supervised" time period?????

Jeanee

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
