Hi everyone, glad to see there's a little UK sub group on here as I've found it hard to find local support groups (don't see to be many in the UK). Yay ????

I'd love to hear a little about you guys.

My name is Nikki (age 37) & I live in Hertfordshire with my hubby & gorgeous little girl. I am at the early stages of the WLS journey. Been doing loads of research online & having discussions with my GP over the last few weeks & have decided that I think the gastric sleeve is the right route for me. I think I'll end up doing it as self pay rather than NHS & am waiting to hear back from the surgeons office re. a date for a first appointment.

Part of me is super excited but I am also so scared .... Weirdly I'm not that scared about the procedure itself (although it does make me nervous), What really scares me is that I'll fail at this too ????.

I have been fat my whole life, and my whole life I've been told by numerous people that the only reason I'm fat is because I choose to be and that if I just ate less & moved more and really really tried hard enough I could be thin. I've been on lots of diets and even lost a pretty large amount of weight once (about ) but just put it all back on (+more!). I can't blame my weight on a medical condition or a traumatic childhood event so basically I've come to the conclusion that it's my lack of willpower/laziness??? And that's why I'm scared - what if I fail at this just liked I've failed at my other diets.

I feel super motivated & excited & positive about this amazing opportunity, but if I'm honest I've felt this way before when starting a diet and haven't stuck to it. ????

Did anyone else feel this way? Am I just being overly negative?

Hi Nikki, I am not too far from you in Surrey. I am due my sleeve on Saturday. I have been through similar thoughts and emotions to you but my main worry is the procedure. Not worried about failing to loose the weight, this will happen. I have spoken to many people who have had this done. Mostly, they say they have one regret.......that they didn't do it sooner!! There are some lovely members in the UK on here whom are at different stages that can offer you support and advice. Private message me to keep in touch if you like.

It's lovely to wake up knowing I have you all here to chat to. I had a bit of a bad day yesterday but thankfully nothing to do with sleeve/surgery. I had my pre-op which went well and has made me feel a bit more comfortable about where I'm going, staff etc. They were all lovely. I also met the anaesthetist and told him my main concern about the whole thing - my crowned teeth being damaged - they have literally cost me a small fortune! I'm guessing if that is my biggest worry things are pretty good.

I feel very excited about the future and being well enough to enjoy it.

Good luck to everyone whatever stage you are at! xx

Hi everyone! I'm so glad to have found this group here.. I am 19 weeks out post sleeve .Am a 35 year old mother of 2 beautiful kids living in Surrey.I have lost 44 lbs post sleeve but am experiencing a horrible stall for the last 10 days or so. Recently I haven't been able to drink a lot of Water and am having difficulty in doing so as I was having in earlier days. I'm having a Protein Shake everyday ,taking my Vitamins and supplements regularly, baking my meals mostly with a light drizzle of olive oil( fish, chicken or veg)walking quite a bit and even going to the gym atleast twice a week. What do you think may be the problem here? Any tips on getting past the plateau??

All the very best to those going in for surgery soon.what I can say to you is

Inspite of my situation now, there's not been a day I regretted having the sleeve.. I know 44 lbs is a lot of weight loss and for a person like me I couldn't have lost it any other way .. I went up to 275 lbs until I decided to "take the plunge" so to say.I am motivated ,inspired and driven everyday every moment now to eat healthy, live healthy and keep striving to get to my goal weight of 130 lbs.I know I can do it.. And so can every body else.. All the very best!!????????

Just found this post and it's nice to hook up with some of you who are slightly more local! I'm in Surrey.

I was sleeved nearly 11 weeks ago and I feel WONDERFUL. Wish I had done it years ago. So far my weight loss has been fairly slow but sure and I have lost 31lbs. I'm still finding my way around getting the right amount of Protein but thanks to this site found a great place online to buy unflavoured whey isolate. I make a small batch of protein and fruit shakes and they keep very well in the fridge. It means that when I haven't got time for Breakfast or am too bone idle to make something I just pour a shake. I also have one when I go to bed as when I was pre-sleeve I was a real midnight muncher. It seems to do the trick and makes me feel full and contented. I paid privately for my surgery and went to Roeslare in Belgium. My GP took a very dim view of what I was about to do when I saw him pre-op for something completely unrelated. He suggested that I try 'portion control'. Like that had worked for the past few years!!!!

Hiya Mel. Good luck for May 3rd. Stay excited and don't be scared. I feel as though I am still in the honeymoon phase as my excitement is still with me at just over five months since my op. Every day is part of the most exciting journey you could wish for. I'm now 50lbs down so I'm slow but sure but I feel wonderful. Still got 32lbs to lose but if I can stay on track the way that I have been doing then hopefully by my 60th birthday I will be back down to a weight that I haven't seen since I was in my 20s. Clothes have started to be fun again and I've swapped the FitFlops and Crocs for cowboy boots and heels. I'm now practicing growing old DISGRACEFULLY!!!!!

Love it jintycb growing old disgracefully I think I shall adopt this as my mantra

I cannot wait to get the surgery done I get so scared about not getting through surgery even though I know they wouldn't do it if my preop bloods and test come back not satisfactory

I'm just a worrier I guess

Well done on your weight loss sounds like you have mastered it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
