Hi guys. What does your pre op diets look like? How long are you on it, is it only liquid, or a normal low calorie diet?

I did a two week Meal Replacement pre-op liver reduction plan. I couldn't be doing with all the meals going with it, so just stuck to drinks.< /p>

I started a restricted diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. The day before surgery is liquid only. A day on the restricted diet looks something like this: Breakfast - Carnation Instant Breakfast shake, no sugar added, medium piece of fruit; AM snack - 1/4 cup 1% milk, 1/2 cup veggies; lunch - 1/4 cottage cheese, 1/4 cup veggies; PM snack - medium size piece of fruit; dinner - Another Carnation shake, 1/4 cup veggies; Bedtime snack - Plain Greek yogurt. There are a few variations I can work with, but this is pretty much it.

Yea, thats what I am doing too, I have been drinking Soups and shakes for almost a week now. Some of the days haw been really hard, so once a day I have replaced a shake with a plum or a slice of bread, with the same ammount of (or less)calories than the shake would give me. I hope this is does not ruin anything when it comes to the liver reduction. The instructions from my surgeon were so vague. I have surgery the 5th of September. Nervous and worried im not preparing the right way.

I'm sure you're doing everything right. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I don't start until September 16, but my pre-op diet is two weeks of super low carb, and I have to stay under 20 g carbs a day.

Hi - In Canada we are required to be on Meal Replacements (like Boost) 5-6 per day and Water for 1 month prior to surgery. That's it! I'm going into my 2nd week and it is tough. Surgery is Sept. 8th. Trying to stay positive...

I would die. I've been struggling with the restricted diet I've been on. I don't think I could make it on yours! Keep up the great work. The 9th will be here before you know it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
