byebyefat 262 Posted August 18, 2015 How long after surgery, did you drive? Days? Weeks ?
Sharon1964 2,530 Posted August 18, 2015 A couple of days, however, the hospital offered to let me drive home on discharge. I did a wtf??, and they explained that if you haven't had painkillers in four hours you can drive. I hadn't had any that day at all, but I declined to drive. Michelle Tarver 62 Posted August 18, 2015 My doctor has said no driving for 2 weeks post-op. I am not there yet, but that's what I was told.
AvaFern 3,516 Posted August 18, 2015 I drove myself home from the hospital at about 48 hours after surgery. I made a point to make sure the narcotics were stopped 24 hours before I drove, but it wasn't a very enjoyable trip and I don't remember much of it. Even though I wasn't technically high, it probably wasn't the best idea ever. Physically I was fine, but I would def suggest being off the painkillers at least a day or more before driving. mclorrie 219 Posted August 18, 2015 I was told I could drive a couple of days after I quit taking my pain meds. For me it was around five days. I only took my meds for two days after I got out of the hospital.
OKCPirate 5,323 Posted August 18, 2015 I was off pain meds two days after surgery, so when I flew home I drove back from airport on day three. But it depends on your mobility. Can you turn without discomfort? Do an honest assessment of your condition and think about all the motions needed for driving. Can you do them? If your not on narcotics why shouldn't you drive? ValerieDee1975 55 Posted August 19, 2015 I had my surgery on a Wed morning and was driving on Friday morning, but I am used to taking morphine for a back condition, so the docs weren't worried about me.....usually they say as soon as you no longer need your pain meds
MrsRoboto 370 Posted August 19, 2015 I had surgery on a Monday and was driving on Wednesday. I drove my 3 kids to the dentist 20 minutes away. Thursday and Friday I drove my daughter to and from camp. I never took any painkillers at home so I was fine to drive.
