Had sleeve surgery yesterday

Recommended Posts

So it's been about 24 hours.

Still in hospital, feeling pretty good.

I haven't had anything to eat since Saturday. Just liquids on Sunday.

I'm hungry, but feeling anxious about drinking Water later.

Should do my leak test some time this morning.

My pain tolerance is pretty high. It just feels like I did a bunch of stomach crunches.

Not too much gas either. That feels more like a sharp cramp, but it passes.

Hoping this part of the journey will continue to be this tolerable!

Day 2

Started on Clear Liquids today (water, broth, and jello)

I am tolerating it well enough, but feel full and I am afraid of over doing it.

Since 10am, I have had about 20 ounces.

Not sure I will get much more in.

That's ok, right?

My Day 2 (clear liquids) was pitiful! I discovered that I couldn't get anything down if it was luke warm or room temperature...everything had to be either ice cold or hot. Once they put ice in everything I was better. Still struggled for a few days to get higher amounts down, but it slowly increased.

Congrats on your decision to do the surgery and welcome to your new life! Take it slow with the liquid diet. It got hard for me at the end of 2 weeks. I was ready to eat by then, but just know that they tell you to wait for a reason. Trust what your doctor is saying. You will get through it and the weight will fly off during those 2 weeks. Welcome to the club!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
