Clothes for immediately after surgery?

Recommended Posts

For the first week or so after surgery it's advised that we wear loose fitting clothing. I could just get stretchy sweatpants, but I was hoping for something a little more... stylish?

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for loose fitting pants/shirt other than sweatpants?

I see you posted this in the "men only" section but it popped up when I searched for new content since my last visit. I'm not a sweatpants kinda person and wanted something a bit tidier to wear in those initial weeks and found some soft cotton cargo pants. My surgery was mid-winter so I found them both comfy and warm.

I don't think that's going to work for any of us.

The good news, Geronimo, is that everything you own will be looser.

Under Armor long sweatpants and t-shirts are what I'm going to be wearing.

I lived in flannel pajamas... but did not go out much!

I never threw anything out from my thinner late-teen years. Definitely just pulled all of those out of the attic. Loose-fitting is stuff is already causing problems. And I'm finding that when I wear clothes from the most recent times prior to surgery, none of the weight loss shows. It just looks dumb. So even dealing with something being tight for a little while is probably worth it. If you do have to buy new clothes, buy on the tight side, and eventually it'll be the perfect fit, and then eventually a little saggy. I don't think there is a different stylistic method that applies post-WLS.

I wore a sundress home then I went back to jean shorts the next day. My incisions are all above my belly button so I could wear regular pants no issue. The only problem I had was my bra rubbing my center incision but I kept it covered and that was it.

@@gowalking - Get a kilt -- "If it's not Scottish, IT'S CRAP" ;-) [NOTE: This is an old Saturday Night Live Joke for anyone under 45].

Seriously, I was in Mexico and brought cargo shorts in hospital with elastic in waist band. And then had pants with elastic band for the plane ride home. Just wore t-shirts.

Good deal. Was starting to wonder with all the mumu-sundress suggestions.

I can hear the screaming protests just as the anesthesia takes over, "No.....not there.....not my junk......just my stomach" and then it's lights out.

Thanks for the advice y'all.

I am going shopping with the wife today.

I will be looking of some loose fitting, but fashionable sundresses and "mumu's".

Where do you get those in size 3x with 48" waist ?

Thanks, Mike

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
