Gastric bypass in Kentucky!

Recommended Posts

Well I have been thinking about having the surgery for some time now. So on August 13th I had my first apartment and I am now on my pre-op diet. One thing that I need to get is to have my doctor sign off on some paperwork so that I can wave the 6 month doctor supervised diet. Was got for the sleeve but the doctor told that do to my size that bypass RNY would be best. I have been looking for all the info that I can on the RNY. Any info would be great.

Best of luck with your surgery. Who is doing your surgery?

I was sleeved April 20 with Dr. Weiss at Georgetown. I couldn't be more pleased with my recovery so far. (I started at a super high BMI and had the sleeve.)

The best advice I can give is learn as much as you can, read, and ask questions.

Do everything you are asked to do by your surgeon and team. Focus on getting in your Protein and Water, stay off the scale, and follow your pre- and post-op diet plan to the letter.

If in doubt, ask questions. I know my NUT has been extremely helpful and is reachable by phone and email.

Best of luck and keep us posted on how it's going.

beyond here, I found a lot of information on YouTube, I googled rny so much I type the letter R and it autofills now! Haha and I even read a few books like Weightloss surgery for Dummies and a few others. My best resource though is a friend of mine who has been through it and tells it like it is without sugar coating things. Where in Kentucky are you from? I grew up across the Ohio River in Evansville, but my family all came from Kentucky. :)

There's another great book I'm reading, in addition to The Big Book on Gastric Bypass, written by the founder of this site. It's called The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery. It goes over information on all of the weight loss surgeries, as well as all the information about diets, nutrients, recipes, etc. It is a one stop type of book.

I originally wanted sleeve but my surgeon said with my family history of diabetes that rny would be better. I am a little over three months post and I am amazed with my progress, how great I feel and my relief in knowing I am taking back control of my health. The more you know about it, the better you will feel with your decision, keep researching! Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
