Dehydrated & Gout

Recommended Posts

I had gastric sleeve on July 28th. I immediately had problems with Water intake. I needed IV fluids 1 week after surgery. 1 week after that I was hospitalized for dehydration and severe gout in my shoulder, ankle and elbow. I am still struggling to get down the minimum 64oz of Fluid and I feel week and miserable. Any suggestions out there?

You poor thing! I suggest you do whatever your wife tells you to do! Buck up, and drink up! You are definitely having a tougher time than most, and I really do sympathize. Love you, Bat!

I had issues the first day or two out. I had to go into the surgeons office for IV fluids. I was done as a outpatient and went home the same day of surgery. Have you tried you liquids at room temp? I can't do cold liquids right now 11 days out. I drink all my Water at room temp or heated. It is the only way I can get them down.

I was cured of horrible gout pain after 5 months of suffering, and no help from here, or any doctor except life threatening drugs that hospitalized me and nearly killed me. A compound pharmacist saved my life, within 4-5 days. Simple. 2 weeks of fruit and veggies. take six tart cherry capsules, 2 at a time, 3 times a day. Take 3 Celery capsules, at meals, along with three CUramin capsules 3 times a day. Munch on celery sticks. Use Tumeric powder as a condiment, like salt and pepper, the rest of your life, on salads and everything. Too much Protein caused my gout. 2 years gout free and happy. The tears are no more.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
