Weight Loss after surgery

Recommended Posts

How long after surgery did you start to actually lose weight? I'm 10 days out and I don't feel as if I'm losing any at all. Please don't comment about how I didn't gain it overnight so I wont lose it overnight I know that. I am not really worried about losing I have this maybe slihtly unrealistic fear that its not working and I've gone though this for nothing.

your profile says you have lost 32 pounds - assume that was from the pre surgery diet?

I actually GAINED weight right after surgery because they pumped me full of Fluid. It was probably 8 days before i started seeing any "net" losses. I think I lost about 28# total in my first month but I had over 150# to lose.

Most people lose quite a bit the first 3 months, but it doesn't happen in a linear fashion... stops and starts and stalls and all.

G'day Nickkibear..

To be honest with you, I'm almost six months out and I often don't feel as if I'm losing any.

I still see myself as the fat man I was before surgery, even tho I've lost over 100 pounds.

I think part of the problem is that we only see ourselves as we are, not as we were.

It's hard to put into words what I mean...

We see ourselves EVERY DAY. Because of this, we're less likely to notice changes. It's only when we get some perspective (photos side by side, pre-op Vs now) that we see where we're really at.

I know for myself that, no matter how big the changes in my clothes and my fitness etc, I still see the same old fat man every time I look in the mirror. (Admittedly, I am one of the larger members here and therefore have a long way to go.)

Just stick with it...

Do as your surgeon/nutritionist tells you...

And when the positive comments start to come (and they will come, I assure you), listen to them... Take note of them... Pay attention to them... And remember that they're from people who see you much, much differently to the way you see yourself..

Good luck...

Take care..

Kinda...

It might because you're metabolism is slow at first being in a starvation mode.Once I was able to start eating in small amounts the weight has been coming off. You speedup you're metabolism by eating every 4 hours. I am at 9 weeks and I have lost 25lbs.My dr dietician shared this with me which I knew. I met with my general practitioner for my physical and my results where much better. At first I was exercising 2 times a week which I started 4 weeks ago. The first time I rode the exercise bike 30 minutes was really ruff. I know can do 45-60 minutes of bike and 45 minutes elliptical trainer. I feel so much better. Hang in there. My stepsister had the stomach bypass and told me it was 3 months and the weight started coming off.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
